All's well that ends well. Just finished second coat and the neighbour is happy. Didn't bat an eye at the final cost, snagging tomorrow for all the little oopsies and dark patches (if there are any).
Funny thing is, I definitely got through 2.5 litres so would have been panicking if I only had that much in the tin. As it was, I probably put too much on, extra thick to get that lovely roller texture.

Still haven't forgiven Howdens for letting the customer call and schedule a delivery of the kitchen.I am still boycotting places that tried to rip me off during the last lockdown, i have a feeling my list is going to get longer during November.
I'd paid the bill. Not the customer and didn't appreciate them trying to back me into a corner to fit.
It used to be around £100 per room around here but that was 10 years ago.

Plaster repair, paint the ceiling, paint the walls, paint woodwork (skirting, panel door, built in shelves). This is a kitchen so you have to work around countertop, oven, oak cupboards. You suggest £100?
Dude, if you're ever anywhere near London, please come and paint my house. I'll give you double that rate happily. Even ten years ago, that's close to slave labour.

The usual vagaries from the govt, ‘non essential shops will close, but other shops can stay open and sell none essential goods....‘ or words to that effect.

It is a difficult balance but I think the idea is, unless it is essential, you don't go out. So "non essential" goods retail is shut down and they complain that some of their non essential goods can be had from Tescos so they also have to take the drastic step of removing those items from sale. It's all a bit of a bodge but let's not forget, this is a serious public health risk, not of our making and we just have to all do the best we can under the circumstances.

Sure, what I mean is is not our fault another bizarre virus has somehow entered human society. We in the western nations did not make this pandemic happen. I agree with your implied suggestion that certain elements of our society are not helping by carrying on as if nothing has happened.
I rushed through this job as quick as i could while the owners were away this weekend (had a terrible time preparing to redo the kitchen while they were still using it!) and I now have a list of interesting little jobs I probably can't do under lockdown.
I have suggested if they are out or go out, I can whip off a couple of interior doors and take them away to trim them to fit. I think this property has suffered from a minor amount of subsidence not uncommon in London and this has caused the plaster to crack off in one whole sheet, like an eggshell. It has also stopped a couple of doors from closing.
Dunno what the rules are for visiting someone's house while they are out. I guess the problem with that is they shouldn't be going out anyway!
We have already got shops / businesses claiming to be "essential".....Opticians, Oven Cleaners, Charity Shop......in their mind they ARE essential but they dont seem to realise that whilst they are thinking of ways round the pandemic they are spreading it and giving it life.......todays selfish society
And the " my kids arent going to school" brigade are also out.....

We are all tying to make the best of a bad job, see my post above for example. I need the work so am already trying to work out ways around the lockdown. Commensurate with "the rules" of course and naturally aslo trying to protect my own fragile health. But since I am self employed, no work means no money. I do not qualify for a grant etc.
So I am not surprised a shop will try to suggest their good are essential but so long as the plan is effective on the larger scale, it shouldn't matter (or be surprising) if it does tend to fray a bit around the edges.
This is the problem.....and when lockdown gets extended you will no doubt blame the Government.
Track and Trace doesnt work because people dont want it to work......except on everyone else

De enrolled mine before September. They've been thriving on home schooling.
My work life won't change much. I've avoided small jobs and spent a week minimum at each customers house rather than 2 houses a day.

No it is not THE problem it is A problem because people actually do need to survive. As it happens I do not and will not blame the government either. Nor do I need to be told to be careful or keep away from people, social distance or wash my hands, I already do that anyway.
Test and trace (!) "doesn't work" because SARS-CoV 2 is a tricky thing to pin down (test results are almost hopelessly inaccurate), Covid-19 is easier to spot only once it's literally too late! We also have a high population density of people living in a free society. It's ok for retired, employed/furloughed and lit. unemployed. They'll be ok. If you are self employed like me, you need to find a way to survive while following the rules.
As it happens, I saw this coming and did a double shop last week, enough to see me to Christmas and no, I deliberately didn't buy any bog roll though if there is a shortage of PotNoodles at Morrissons. Tough. You snooze you lose.

Fridge freezer died July. Cheap replacement while awaiting the new one so I stuck it in the garage and kept it.
Slowly filled it up with bits and pieces over the last few months as it was obviously going to happen Again
Now if we have a delayed shop or stuff missing at least I'm not going to be fretting about the kids going hungry this time
Yes.......kids are the least likely to catch it......and they need an education
