i'm on 179,000 pasat tdi 130 4 motion still original clutch anf flywheel, i'm not gntel to the car nor was the last owner. the old mans golf 5 did 160k ( 1 owner car ) he used to drive it quite hard but he's getting much steadyer just swaped it out for an luk replacement.
quite a lot of cars you have to watch the concentric slave cylinders now thats £100 on the job as its the slave cyl and release bearing sort of darent not change it

I always go for the solid flywheel conversions, I must have changed at least ten of our vehicles from dmf to solid. Our fitter had to do our Passat yesterday and the replacement cost was getting perilously close to the car being cubed on economical grounds.

I'm toying with buying a local focus tdci, but the owner says the clutch has started slipping when you boot it, so it will be a complete replacement clutch/dmf kit. The local garage I use (who are trustworthy and reasonably priced) have quoted £750 + VAT (i.e. £900) to supply the kit and do the work. Does this sound reasonable? I've seen the kits on ebay for around £320.

I have just this week had mine replaced for £954 inc vat. It was not slipping but made a god awful noise in 1st. No visual signs of the clutch or dmg being knackered but it not half drives smoother now.
I do most of my miles on a motorway but also tow with the car.

That would mean doing it in the road, so not too keen on that idea. Don't have a garage or even a friendly mechanic mate. The one I had gave up spannering a long time ago.
