I was wondering what peoples thoughts are on a couple of machines for sale local to me.
The first is a 5" double height bed drummond lathe. I can't find a much information online about them like spindle taper or bore. It has been converted to belt drive and I'm not sure if it has any change wheels with it, though the ones from my b might fit? The compound slide also appears to be missing and the tool post arrangement looks a bit strange. There is apparently another box of parts that the seller is going to get photos of at the weekend for me.
The second is a Herbert No.1 horizontal milling machine. Again there is almost no information available, not even on lathes.co.uk. From what I have found it probably has an unusual WW2 era taper for the arbour, similar to iso 30 but any tooling would have to be modified. Not sure what tooling comes with it. Again it has been modified with what I presume is an attempt at a vertical head, but looks very dodgy and would be removed if I got it. Looks like it needs a lot of cleaning up but that it would be a solid little machine.
