Morse taper drift if it has a hollow quill.
Sticky pin ( a lump of plasticine and a pin !)No actually it's a Startrite mercury mk11 it was more than a tenner but it was about a mile out of my way on my route home from work if that counts
I don't believe it has a taper quill just the rohm chuck pops of a small taper on the end of the quill using that knurled ring with the 2 holes
Again if anyone knows different speak up

What are options for lining up parts? A dead centre of some kind?
........... What are options for lining up parts? A dead centre of some kind?[/QUOTE said:Depends on the accuracy required, but centre punch chucked up works fine for most purposes. If you are going to do repetitive drilling, then a couple of pieces if angle iron, or an adjustable or 90* square clamped to the table work a treat.
This really is a good tip and one I only recently realised after blunting goodness knows how many bits and work hardening the job.Small tin can of engine oil and a cheap pointed paint brush standing in it..your drill bits are going to love you forever each and every dab![]()
Also, a magnet is handy for holding drill bits, taps, or other small tools near by on the table while doing a job.
Centre punch, if you've not already gone one and a bench grinder to keep your drill points keen. I've known people throw blunt bits away, unaware that they can be reground.
Surely that could magnetise them?I would suggest drilling a small hole in a golf ball and jam it over the handle of your chuck key. It will give you better leverage to tighten and release drill bits from the chuck. Also, a magnet is handy for holding drill bits, taps, or other small tools near by on the table while doing a job.

Round our way they all come to me to be sharpened, knew I should have kept my mouth shut.
Yeah, maybe I should keep my mouth shut too. I just picked this up today. It has attachments for sharpening Mill, Drill, & Lathe cutters. Won it on ebay.

That's nice mate is it a lisle?
It's a big issue for me especially with tapsIf it happens on occasion, I just tap the base of the drill and the bits fly off; not really an issue for me.
