Just wondered if anyone had used one of these, & if they're any good, square to the piece etc.

Use biscuits mainly. Easier.
Go with the one you linkedIt's not for dowels. Simply to drill holes at right angles to the piece, instead of using a pillar drill.
Ahm the Axminster one is worth a look. It's not for dowels. Simply to drill holes at right angles to the piece, instead of using a pillar drill.
I bought this lidl thing, its rubish, the resulting holes were worse than freehand.
The guides not deep enough or a slightly sloppy fit, I assume?
I never bought them but had a look at https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07BVSMZ6T/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_TiNJFb0JDY4X8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 made me think i should make my own.
I have a piece of MET bar (earthing terminal) that I use for that job. 6mm holes, but running them through at 8mm or 10mm doesn't take long on the drill press.I never bought them but had a look at https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07BVSMZ6T/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_TiNJFb0JDY4X8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 made me think i should make my own.
