Drill chuck repacing help needed

Thanks Seadog love the whistle I have done a bit of research and it turns out to be a Hurco milling machine vice by all accounts worth a tidy bit, I dont think i would ever use it as not got a milling machine.

I must be a bit slow or something as dont understand what Farside said and who's Gack

I am no judge of a company as I dont buy from machine shops but from my limited knowledge I couldnt see anything wrong with the site, as a normal site tying to make a sale, I must admit I couldnt find anything to do with Elliott but this could be a more specialized item and would warrant a phone call.

I do now know what BS means but for me I am not knowledge enough to make a judgement. Down here we like to get a bit more bang for the buck if you know what I mean, dad always says its not what you earn its how you spend it.

Just to update as to the drill the meddings went (sold) before Xmas the Elliot is now pride of place in the tool room I have managed to spruce it up ith a lick of paint nothing special some leftover freggie grey and gave it a good service I pulled out those awkward grease nipple and fitted conventional ones much easyier to work with and fitted 2 new belts I am very pleased with it. I almost forgot I kept the large vice it works and looks great on the table which I also welded up some holes on it, not to shabby if i say so myself.

Changed the knob from one I made to one I purchased keeps it more original

I bet it's got some serious torque also! Makes my weedy 250W pillar drill look like plastic

I started with a weedy 250W drill then father let me use his meddings that was a big step for me now this, runs real quiet and the auto feed when drilling is something else.
Remember we all got start at the bottom and work up.

Seadog I can now make a comment regarding Gate Machinery and us my new word lol

I inquired about a new Quill Return Spring for the Elliott before i gave the one I have a bit more tension (will leave well alone now).

Cost for a new spring from Gates £75-00 plus the vat and carriage gack gack gack

I have heard something of the 300 some group of wealthy people want to rule the world or something along them lines lol I may be wrong will look up some info on the 600 ha ha.

The Quill could do with a bit more tension but it dose not drop so no worries here on a slow return.

Now the drill is looking tidy I have had had father out with the paint brush on the lathe lol he is ok getting down just needs a lift up now and then.

umm its took a bit of abuse for some reason that end of the bench gets all the abuse, mind you it has always had a bit of a bend in the handle must get it fixed cheers

The Progress is a professional machine and, unless it's been badly abused, will see you out. I've had my 2G since 1982, a 1950s machine at a guess, but still going strong. That looks like like a very nice milling vice, are you sure it's too big for you?

Thanks Seadog I am so glad I took your advice and kept the vice it is perfect on the Progress. Do you remember a couple month ago I nearly chopped it out for a that Jones-Shipman rotary table well, last night I bagged said table for silly money fits the Elliott perfect its a bit heavy though. luckily still have the vice now have the table thanks.
