Cart springs? I don't think so. Plenty of Green Ovals with cart springs, but as old as the Jap ones are. Things have moved one everywhere. Many of the pick ups are still on leaf springs but then Landrover don't make a similar pick up as such.
If pulling 3.5t is the real target here and quite new as well then you really are limited. Something has to give. Either pulling or age. Said it before, but the smart money for lugging massive loads is the 80 Cruiser. Comfortable, loaded with extras that still work, un-burstable engine, far stronger drive train than any Landy in history, comfortable, 8 seats, Huge boot space, easy to work on, massive torque and no rot anywhere really even after 20 years.

We where talking about pick-ups or open back vehicles. The Land Rover carries one tonne in the rear just the same as the double cab Jap machines.
Land Rover haven't used leaf springs at all for very nearly 30 years.

I was referring to the comment that Jap machines still use leaf springs. It was a bit general. Most of the pick ups and of course many Jeeps still use this technology, but most of the marques / models have been coil spring for many many years like Landrovers. Many have also changed to IFS which is nice on road but not as good in my view when in the deep stuff.
