Hi All,
So, its safe (very safe) to say I'm new to welding. I've decided to learn to MIG weld as I have a 66 Mustang that needs some attention and I thought it would be a great winter (not sure how many!!) project.
I did a LOT of reading before buying a welder and eventually settled on a SIP T166.
Today I decided to see if I could get a bead going but failed miserably. I cleaned some angle steel with a grinder to ensure good ground and surface and started off with wire speed very low and power setting 1 (out of 6). It sputtered and coughed like crazy so I played with the settings until I got something that sounded 'ok'. But I couldn't get a puddle going no matter what I did.
But what I was happy about was being able to weld some metal together! - It's hideous but a start.
One thing I did find is that the wire was coming out really fast even if the wire feed control was right down low.
Can you tell anything about the settings from the pictures ? (I apologise in advance!)
