Dish washers are rubbish - look under the sink for some oven cleaner i jest not Ok it says "do not use on aluminium" - but as long as you dont let it dry, rinse it well with hot water and then spray with WD40 to get rid of any residuals then it brings machinery up a treat - manky black gearbox 30 years of clutch and brake dust as well as oil
Oh and its designed to cut through veg oil - might need some help from a scourer ( usually found near her oven cleaner)

This grime is not like car grease. Its much worse.
It kind of dries, and forms a tough finish. Think greasy spoon cafs more than slimy wheel bearings.

My unit is a right bottom of the line karcher.

So's mine.

I'm dubious as I have a cheap sandblaster for my big compressor, and even at 14cfm or whatever it does, sandblasting anything larger than kitchen cutlery is so tedious.

The lances look to be about 50 notes. Which is almost double my outlay on the pressure washer itself. Good if it works. 50 quid of irritation if it does not! : )

Before my ownership - was used as part of a biofuel plant.

But, again, i need to re-itterate - (some of) this isnt oil like you pour out of a bottle. Its 'oil' like the stuff that gets around the cooker hotplates. Some of it is like a dried on film.

Like the stuff on the outside (not inside) of frying pans.

I dont know how the numbers compare with other units, but i do know that ive used way more powerful domestic units units before.

In truth, i rarely bother to get it out, due to it just not being that impressive (useful).

I wouldn't fancy blasting it unless your planning a full stripdown, the grit has a habit of getting into places it shouldn't. The oven cleaner suggested above sounds much safer for the compressor, a few specks of grit will destroy the pump.

Old cooking oil is a right pain to shift, it sort of half sets with grit in it, tfr hardly looks at it, brake cleaner does soften it but not well by the time its soaked in its evaporated.

paint is made from veg oil - sunflower, linseed etc it dries and oxidises to a yacht varnish like film. You dont want anything too volatile to remove it as it just flashes off without braking down the film - paint stripper may be another option.

methanol, would be a good solvent on it. The "Film" is because the veg oil has polymerised. Methanol, with some NAOH will shift if (get it warm if you can) but it would be corrosive to ally, so im not sure on timescales.

Basicaly what im saying is the above will shift the oil but use at your own risk.

Well not long less than an hour,problem is you have to put on your best john west sea suit and a pair of googles.

Sand,a bag of it will do your jobby but as its only £3 a bag i got two and then in the summer I put the engine in a big plastic tub so that most of the sand could be kept and dried it out on a tarpaulin for reuse again,

Methanol and veg oil are not soluble. Acetone or isopropenol will shift it but they both evaporate really quickly, so not good for soaking stuff. Petrol is not bad but really needs to be submersed to break down the lacquer or polymerisied veg oil.

Either way its a dirty job involving lots of mess and elbow grease (pun intended), previously when having had veg oil spills in cars I have just sold them rather than clean them!!
