Do i dare put this in the dish washer?

Im wanting to repaint this -

The actual compressor is seperate at the moment. Its covered in old vegetable oil.

Ive tried kitchen cleaners (non-ionic surfacents) and then petrol, but theres still slime (and grime) all over it.

Its small enough to fit in our dishwasher. Ive been known to put parts in there before, when noones looking.... : )


Im going to change the oil on it anyhow, so what do you reckon?


Or any other suggestions (cant used caustic as some parts are alloy).

Sandblasting would be the ideal, but i lent my other compressor to a friend, and now i need to fix that one as well... : /

I would certainly like to see the size of your dishwasher, where is it, in the elephant house at the zoo?
Seriously spray it with gunk, then use a steam cleaner / pressure washer.

Some engine degreaser from halfrauds (gunk is just a well known supplier) a stiff brush, some elbow grease followed up with some power washer action should see this good

Just take it to your local petrol garage and use there power washer...hot and plenty of detergant will sort that..

friends don't you just love em. I would never lend tools to a friend even if he kiss's my a*s.
did it once but never again.they don't appreciate your tools as much as their own.
stories I've heard over the years of so called friends.yes that is what they are so called.
if he was a genuine friend he would have got it fixed or bought you a new one..

Go on, stick it in. I've cleaned up a shotgun stock in ours. Hottest setting and just use a dishwasher tab. I used to have one just for my stuff in the garage but the sump froze and cracked one winter before I insulated the place.

Buy a wet sandblasting lance for your pressure washer and some kiln dried sand at £3 a bag.

And your gizmo will come up like this or better?

As a strict vegi the thought of meat residue in dishwasher is more "offensive" to me than dirt / grease from mechanical parts. I often wash oily bits in the sink and as long as I properly clean up after wife couldn't care less so can't see a dishwasher is any different to a sink !

That is impressive, but was it done with a pressure washer the size of family hatchback?

My unit is a right bottom of the line karcher.

I'm dubious as I have a cheap sandblaster for my big compressor, and even at 14cfm or whatever it does, sandblasting anything larger than kitchen cutlery is so tedious.

The lances look to be about 50 notes. Which is almost double my outlay on the pressure washer itself. Good if it works. 50 quid of irritation if it does not! : )

This grime is not like car grease. Its much worse.
It kind of dries, and forms a tough finish. Think greasy spoon cafs more than slimy wheel bearings.

Autosmart G101, used neat if necessary but try diluted 4:1 as a starting point. Then pressure wash.
