Do all dad's get even more stubborn and impatient as they get older?

otherhalfs father is still very good for his age and still helps out i was fitting flooring the other day i greatfully recive his help when ever he offers yes he dont do as much as i do (but im getting older and cant do as much as i did)
but he was handing me tools fetching planks of flooring from 3 differant packs hes a very good help and id not done as much as i did on a very hot day

half the work was taking all the white goods out unplumbing getting them out the way the when i done the job getting them back in again

Dad is increasingly more and more difficult to get on with these days.

Hes getting older and his health is deteriorating. He can barely walk, get out of breath very quickly and cannot do any of the stuff he once did.

I'd imagine it's down to the frustration he's feeling, in the realisation of his failing abilities .

Indeed, it’s taken some adjustment and increased tolerance on my part but were good now

Main stream internet hit us in 2003 - Dad was 72 in 2003.

Aged 72 all he was interested in was his garden/greenhouse - abit of fly fishing and some shooting.

Now he is 91 in Sept - a few new potatoes he has grown seems "like winning the lottery to him".

Dad is grateful he can go to the toilet on his own - no really I took him last week to visit his old school friend (last surviving of the class). In a local old peoples home. They discussed "how long they could sleep without going for a p### - wee". They interacted OK - they had a chat about food/toilets - who is still alive and who has died. I sat there - and just absorbed what they were saying. I did not interupt. Then they both fell asleep at the same time - I kid you not - mid coversation - they both started snoring. I wandered out the front gate for smoke to pass the time.

im starting to get a bit like that i know i can do it but over the weekend in that weather would have thought of nothing than fitting the flooring and then finishing up and getting on with a job next day but after a early start and not finishing till 8 ish after mooving all the stuff then refitting i took half a day off and was back at it in the afternoon

think it was more about the hangover than the job

You need to be patient with ederly parents....

My Mother frustrates me - I have to "bite my tongue at times" - but it is "too late in the game for a row".

My Dad is a pleasure to deal with - no really he is a saint (he was a big unit and did not mind a fight in his time). But as an old man - he is "so nice" - so "thankful and appreciative" of help (not that he has to).

Where Mother was always "kind and nice" in her youth - and as she had got older she is "recentful and frustrated" at her loss of "use and function".

Dad is still mobile - he walks the dogs with me daily (rain or shine) - Mother is not too mobile (this is her frustration)...

I understand what the term "doolally" means. I get what you are trying to say!

I just keep asking myself what is in the post for me?

Watching my parents get old - has made me "question" a few things about my own lifestyle????????????????????

Oh I don't know. I'd be proud to be half the man my father is.

I am much the same, mine gave up a pretty good “ empire” of scrapyards and pubs he managed to take a woman with 3 kids...
Even if he drives me insane with 1960s way of building and fixing stuff.

Mother lasted till 95 last 2 years not good lost my dad when I was 18 after 2 years of cancer it was just as we were getting to know each other he was 52.
I would have loved to see him when we went racing, as at the end of his apprenticeship he worked at Thompson and Taylor's at Brooklands. then for NZS Co.as a commissioning engineer, during war as an AID inspector
It was not till I lost my FIL (he was a nice man) that I realized what I had missed, life is strange.

Could be worse . . . you could look in the mirror and see the milkman who used to deliver to your house as a kid . . .

The day after he received it, he hand painted it with some rank old peach coloured paint. It literally looks like some old cobbled wheelbarrow now.

No-one knows why.

I lost my dad when i was 21, 35 years ago now. Not a day goes by I dont think of him. He never met my kids, he’d have been great with them. He’d have been the biggest kid out of them all.
