DIY plumbing / central heating anyone?

It's basically a single pipe running past every radiator with a T off to both valves. When I first saw it after taking up some floorboards I thought someone had cocked up

In other news, I need to fill that hole at the bottom due to moving the socket to the top.



I've used no nonsense ready mixed lightweight filler previously, but found it incredibly hard to sand. It sets like rock and I end up sanding away the plaster around it instead. Is there a filler that is genuinely easy to sand?

I assumed they were all flow and return... I think this has a separate flow and return, but I don't actually know. How do I tell?

Is it a combi? It's a Potterton Profile. Google says "Non-Condensing Conventional boiler". Supposedly highly regarded.

I assumed a combi, my fault.

As I said, Potterton not a favorite of mine, others rate them.

Deep holes I just use fast setting bonding 60 (flush to surface) then easy fill to finish it.

fast setting bonding is that bonding with a hand full of cement power

i keep a big bag of hardwall backing plaster in garage after a few weeks it gets a bit damp and goes hard in 5 minutes after mixing then just skim with multifinish job done use a bit of unibond as well

Cheapest option...wickes do small boxes of all purpose filler. Note cheap isn't best...but it'll get the job done if you give it long enough to dry (a few weeks should do ).

Think the wicked stuff is £6 a box!

using cement as a quick hardener makes the plaster hard and brittle. your suposed to add a bit of lime to make it go off fast

I bought Toupret interior filler earlier, but reading the reviews on the screwfix website, I think it's also going to be hard to sand down in comparison to the surrounding plaster.

What about this stuff? Is it similar to easifill? It's gypsum based.

If you've glued a load of plasterboard in the hole then should be ok to just fill it...I prefer not to leave a void behind as it tends to just crack. Scrim tape will cause you more issues.

might be ok...I prefer to fill them and never have issues.

Hard to tell from the pic...is the window hollow so theres a void behind the board?
