Distributor Caps woes

That's wrong, everything I've worked on either the cap carbon is sprung or the rotor arm has a sprung lever on the top, mismatch there somewhere ?

I didnt say the rotor wasnt sprung. There’s photograph of it earlier

My mistake, not famillar with that type of rotor arm, I was googling for pictures I came across this, might be off some help ? http://www.ttalk.info/Failure.htm

I know you said in an earlier post the you had overhauled the dissy and I would suggest checking the end float. With the cap removed and if you have one, a dti on the top of dissy shaft. Then pull up and push down on the shaft to see how much end float there is. Also you could crank the engine with dti still fitted and see if there is any effect from the meshing of the dissy gear to the camshaft gear. There may be a figure in the specs for the end float.
