On a table that size slate should be in two section. Remove the top rails, fixings should be visible from under the table. Remove felt (will probably need a new one) remove slate. This should leave a wooden frame that is best remved in one piece after the legs have been taken off.

When putting it back together get it level, install slate, level again and then fill the joint between two slabs with moulten beeswax and scrape flat

When spreading the wax, use a hard wood paddle.

In early 70's I was working in the laboratory of Royal Doulton Sanitaryware, commercial product division. The mould for the various prducts were made out of plaster of paris and then joining faces were rubbed on slate to get a completely flat surface. The slate used to wear and the normal industrial suppliers for the ceramics industry wanted silly amounts so old billiard tables used to be bought at a fraction of the price

Got it dismantled in an hour and home in two. Slate was in 3 bits so comfortable enough for the two of us to lift.
Got it all into my father in laws Citroën synergies. Job done

Slate will always be in an uneven number of parts - 1, 3, or 5.

This is so as there is not a join at center pockets, where it may overly affect play.

My da and myself are going to collect an 8x4 snooker table this evening. It is still in one piece, how difficult a job is it to dismantle them?

i bought one of these years ago, an 8x4 slate bed snooker table..
came complete with all the balls,cues,rests,scoreboard, cue rack and even the overhead light unit.

me and my mate struggled and strained getting it in the back of his sprinter.

my god was it heavy...

i was going to do it up, re cloth it and new pockets and ball rails etc.

and used it once when i got it home, to see how nice it played.
not been used since...

so much to do and this isn't on the high priority list of things to do.

plus not having the space to use it now either..
