Dismantling a snooker table.

My da and myself are going to collect an 8x4 snooker table this evening. It is still in one piece, how difficult a job is it to dismantle them?

Do you realise how heavy they are if a proper item ? Not something two people can "manhandle" as they have a bed of slate and even an 8' x 4' is around 500kg.

If its a proper one with a slate bed, have a couple of weetabix first, You really need to do a bit of proper research they are all a bit different in construction, the slate bed is usually 3 slabs on a full size table, you will need to remove the rails (the bits with the cushions on) and then strip the baize which will be glued down, try to move it in one piece and you stand a good chance of cracking the bed, it really is a specialist job for people with the correct kit, I've done a couple and vowed never to do another.

It is a proper slate bed table albeit it isn't a full size table.
I am assuming the slate will be in two bits?

Having done some research the slate on an 8X4 appears to come in 3 bits with each weighing 105kgs. Two men should be more than capable of lifting those individually?

I've never dismantled one but I've watched them being assembled. They used a brace and a big screwdriver bit to do some screws along the sides which were hidden under a strip of wood. Number the slates as well if you are taking it down to reassemble. There must be a Youtube of it if you look round. Full size bed on a Riley table is five slates. Baize is stretched and pinned not glued down as it needs retensioning sometimes.

About 20 years ago, i helped move a full size snooker table out of a large house as a wedding reception was going to be held there and the space was needed. It took about a dozen of us to shift it and even then it was a struggle, i'll never forget, the weight was unbelieveable.

On a table that size slate should be in two section. Remove the top rails, fixings should be visible from under the table. Remove felt (will probably need a new one) remove slate. This should leave a wooden frame that is best remved in one piece after the legs have been taken off.

When putting it back together get it level, install slate, level again and then fill the joint between two slabs with moulten beeswax and scrape flat
