Applying too much pressure to aid removal of material kills them quicker than anything.

All seem to be foam rather than rubber between the metal disk and the Velcro surface.

if theyre second hand, a quick blast with a wire brush in an angry grinder gets rid of any imbedded grit that can wreck sanders.probably true....ive been sanding scaff boards
Very timely post brightspark just wondering where to get some velcro pads to convert my ageing DA sander from stick on discs to hook & loop. Thanks

Jeez....they are expensive arent they.........£100 for one that looks older than me.....new one about £400.....backing pads are cheaper............To be fair I used to have a belt sander but it broke and I didnt replace it....I should have......any suggestions other than the megabucks jobs....dont mind £100 but £400 is a bit out of my league.Theres your answer.
