Dimmer switches plus normal switches?

I was given two chandeliers and I'm planning to put them both up in the main room downstairs with the high ceiling that I'm calling a ballroom. There will be 32 bulbs in total and I guess that on some occasions that might be a bit excessive. I'm thinking it will need a dimmer.

The room is also a corridor and it would be handy to flick a switch rather than fiddle with a dimmer switch to go through. Within the regs can you have a dimmer control on the feed separate from the switches?

Looks like dimmers are pulse width modulation there days so should save energy when turned down rather than burn a hole in the wall. Any recommendations for good ones that avoid flicker? My switches are all Click UK from Scolmore.

Will need to be led compatible.
Also check how many watts it can manage.

I really rate Knightsbridge ones from tlc.

I’ve got Schneider dimmers in kitchen and bedroom with led down lights and they work well. You can have a separate switch to turn lights on/off as well, though this needs to be a retractive type (ie you push it on and it springs back) rather than a normal on/off switch - when I installed them I hadn’t realised and tried to replicate the pulse but it didn’t seem to work. Works great with retractive type thorough…

you can wire a dimmer and use a couple of 2 way switches or just the one dimmer and a 2 way switch other end. there push button on off and turn to dim . led bulbs must be dimmable and the dimmer a trailing edge. knightsbrige or simlar 5 to 150w and using 4 watt bulbs max if fitting 28 no

I think there will be 3 switches in total. I would be keen to have the dimmer separate from the switches. Is it OK to wire it in before the first switch? Maybe find one without the push on/off function.

yep buy grid ones mix and match an ordinary switch and a dimmer or 2 or 3 on one plate . fit the 35mm deep boxes on the dimmer it gives more room for cables
