Diesels being really taxed

So I’m looking for a new car to commute in to save a few squid

I was looking at a fiesta 1.4 tdci but a chap at work said the diesels will be reclassified as of next year and the £20 tax will be a considerable amount


Has any one seen anything to confirm this?

I hope that’s not the case! I was under the impression they could only reclassify new vehicles, not change the goalposts on vehicles already classified?

How far is work? Get an old hilux, take the back off and bolt an ibc on. Re register it as agri - good for up to 7 miles on red

Well they can definitely up it. I remember about 15 years ago my Land Rovers were about £120/year, they're now £270.

They can up it but not apply new rules. So it may be that diesels of your age are going up but they can’t move you into a different set of rules I think

Years ago when I had my first v6 (mgzs road rocket), the then chancellor, mr whiteybrows Darling decided to slap £500 odd quid on certain emmissions classes 'cos he could. Well, I can tell you I was spitting feathers! Fair enough on new cars, that's your choice, but retrospectively? I was all set to take it up to his place, park it in his drive and put a match to it...
Well guess what happened? Despite these new "rules" appearing as price brackets on the dvla website, right up to the date, the rules were dropped. No appology, explanation, nothing. It was obviously ruled illegal.
And to think I could have burned a perfectly good MGZS....

Road fund tax was abolished twenty odd years ago I think. I've never paid it.

But then that's just picked up in other taxes....

My Mondeo is £30 ....

£80 x 12 = £960 p/a two vehicles, I appreciate that.

£30 x 12 = £360 , ouch....

Its just an incentive to out price filthy diesel and flog petrol / electric...

Not like I've got 5 diesels and a petrol.
