well it was the old style,and the guy who I bought it from was original owner from new, reckoned the edc light had been on almost from when they got the van, and after seeing the other "servicing" the van suffered I think thats probably true.
to the point of a bit of string attatched to the rear door top latch to undo the door,quick look,cable had popped of refitted and fine ! yet they had gone to the bother of fitting screw eyes for the string to run in !!

All the fiat motorhomes have the same inlet problem, that is the one that I did last it was a fiat MH

No they are a faulty part and they should extend the warranty to that part, I have edited my first post on this, in america they wouldnt stand for it they all club together and take the manuf. to task over things like this!

Yup I agree. The mate on motability I just mentioned sometimes gets a DPF warning - so he lets me drive the car for the day

Having said that it does annoy me that manufacturers say the car will do 50mpg *but* you have to thrash it every so often to maintain that

That's not so much annoying as down right lying by the manufactures IMHO, the MPG figure quoted should be based on the average that the vehicle can manage over many months if not years of driving in varied conditions rather than a theoretical maximum. Your average MPG is gonna suffer while you do your periodical thrash to clean the engine.

Arr...but if the manufacturers programmed the injection systems properly in the first place half of these problem probably wouldn't exist.

After all its only to beat the tests and comply to the government test figures....

These problems exist purely because the test is not indicative of how the car is ever driven, if the test measured the emissions based on usage then not only would beating the test be impossible (ala VW and many others) but it would also mean air pollution would be reduced.

What is better ?

1. A test that is unrealistic and leads to vehicles polluting far more in actual use but being "clean" during the MOT test...
or...
2. A test based usage that allows for a reasonable amount of muck out of the exhaust but that is what they must adhere to all the time ?

1. is like driving through an average speed section on a motorway at double the posted limit but then crawling for the last mile so your average is below the limit while option 2. is like driving at the posted limit all the time through the roadworks which is what they actually want you to do.

I think here there is an issue with the quality of the underground storage tanks at my local garage so I've stopped buying diesel there.I fill up once every three weeks at a newish shell station on my way to Iraklion about two and half hours drive and since I have been doing this regular trip on V power I think the old truck is running better and getting a better MPG or KPL as we say here ... No scientific proof it might be the 'Pipe opening effect '( as me Dad would have said) of a regular long trip, prior to this I just pottered about .. or it might just be the placebo effect ...I dunno ?

After reading about using veg oil in Diesel engines ,I'm thinking about a system to reclaim the oil I use in the kitchen as an experiment ... Once years ago the tanker drivers were on strike and I was on the way to the airport my partner was going to the UK for a work thing ..I had half a tank and all the petrol stations were closed or had no diesel .I worked out I could get her to the airport and get home,but then I'd be stuck at home with an empty tank.So I stopped at a super market and bought two four litre containers of corn oil...stuck 'em in the tank ..it ran fine, no noticeable difference ... The olive oil I grow myself I can sell any spare to the farmers co-op for about three and a half to about four euros a litre so it's worth more than the Diesel , but if I can reclaim the oil I use and add it to the tank now and again ,it's a win win thing ....It wont be hundreds of litres a year but every little helps ...

I've never been aware of my Skoda Roomster doing a regen, do you always know? When I was working, we had Vauxhall combo vans, instructions said if it starts to regen, keep running for 20 minutes or something at above x number of revs, but never had one do it.

If you are not takin the pee, modern cars have diesel particulate filters or damn as they are generally known that holds the carbon deposits, then from time to time (sometimes never) they do a regen which require 2-3 ltrs of fuel sent into the dpf to get it to 700c that then cooks the particles (like a self cleaning oven cleans ) and dumps them out into the atmosphere whilst on the motorway, if you dont go on a motorway you have to go to a garage and they do a FORCED regen which dumps the in the atmosphere in town,! or if done on the road wherever, it is all a load of testicles really.
If a regen does not happen the DPF just gets more and more full till it stops the engine

TFR, traffic film remover? presume you remove it first..thanks worth knowing, what about injector cleaners any you can recomend, I intend to give my "new" van a thrashing when weather/roads clear.

no take off the pressure line before the dpf and inject it there, whilst running, it then is forced into the filter and softens the carbon
