Diesel instead of heating oil for a brief period?

Will I do any damage if I run my old grant riello oil burners in the boilers on diesel for a few days without any adjustment?

Boilerjuice heating oil price has dropped significantly. I have 50litres left on a temporary tank and their best quote is up to 17 days wait time. Its hit and miss that my 50l will last 17 days. Will pump diesel be ok for 5 days or so? I know diesel prices are high but it will be 20 litres of diesel vs getting the best price on 2000+ litres of oil so a drop in the ocean cost wise for a few days.

You need a bigger nozzle for diesel, also some burners (with a balanced flour for eg) don't like diesel.
Can you not get heating oil at any of the petrol stations? You can get emergency top ups everywhere over her in NI.

The local ones that I know had pumps have all taken them out. It was dead useful when we moved in here - I had never had oil before and didnt realise how empty the tank was and how fast it would continue to empty! This was around Christmas time. But I collected about 300 litres in 25L tubs over two journeys from their pumps - all gone now sadly.

Bit the bullet and ordered 2300 litres on a five day delivery. Hopefully I wont need a top up before then - have just gone and reduced the times on the boilers!

Some of the more rural petrol stations have pumps that dispense heating kerosene. We fuelled up in Glasbury, near Hay on Wye, recently, and there was Kero in one of the pumps. About £1.27 a litre, if memory serves me right.

Oh gosh - it was so long ago (2017) that I cant remember. I think it was only around 70ppl then at the pump - that was more than an order but better than running out as I was running around on like 20th Dec and noone could deliver until about 10th Jan. I learnt my lesson that year!

It wont run easily if you do it 100% (i know this, as ive tried it) but if you do 50:50 with kerosene, you wont even need to adjust the settings on the pump.

(ive only skim read the thread, and i think youre probably sorted anyway, but the above is if you still need to know)

Thanks! If I get to my last 15 litres of kero I might cut that with 15l of diesel just to see me through but think I can eek it out!

thicker than diesel & diesel is thicker than heating oil.
