Suspect so, I see there is a company that reconditions your modulator block for £200, may be the way to go.

Someone I know connected the lights to the alternator warning light, engine starts, light goes out. This was on a Mitsubishi Pajero, Mitsubishi failed on warning ABS warning light, lots of sucking through teeth, “that’s going to be very expensive” he was back next day with the lights fixed “how did you do that” they said, he didn’t tell them. Apparently the ABS still worked fine, just brought the light up.

I got a reply from the company that reconditions them, for my fault code: "We have seen that fault code reported before on these type of units, they are often found to be irreparable though unfortunately." Think I will take out and strip it down, nothing much to lose having a look at it.

3 amigos basically turns it all off, if you need abs or tc in a Disco on the road you shouldn't be driving it

Still reckon the abs modulator mod will fix it for you....

No harm in trying, though i see the bearing on the pump corroding and failing is a common fault.

Substitute "here" for "hear" -

If you can drive the pump by a scan tool - it will prove the live/feed/fuse/connectors/inside and outside of the pump.
The only other thing is the logic - it is driven for diagnostics from one chip - but in function the drive chip commands it.
I had a Disco 2 TD5- 54 plate thing - hated it - like a tractor - air suspension failed - lacquer came off the roof and bonnet - fuel pressure regulators leaked/failed - Wabco ABS pump failed.
It was fairly new/low mileage/high value at the time - I declared this was the last Land Rover I would ever own.
Only positive thing I can say about it (the Disco 2)- it was good at towing. Maybe the best tow vehicle I have ever owned.

Had a 2004 Disco 2 Landmark Td5 from it was 3 years old and kept it for 11 years. Absolutely loved it. Plenty of faults including suspension airbags, (basically a 4 year service item) steering box and pump, warped exhaust manifolds x2, clutches and dmf x2, cylinder head, leaky sunroofs,Substitute "here" for "hear" -

. Both of them superb tow cars. I'd happily have another LR, Quite fancy a Series 2 or 3 as a classic to tinker with.

Well you have nothing to loose by removing the pump from the brake circuits - stripping it (the full autopsy) - free it off - plug it back into the mulitplug on the Land Rover and drive it again with the scan tool.
You don't even have to fit the brake pipes and bleed it up - to prove the point.
I have freed a few of these off (Early Mercs - LandRovers and VW T4/T5 vans) - normally I test with an inductive amp clamp when they are in situ to see if they are pulling current into the modulator motor (because if the motor is stuck but OK - not burnt out - it will be pulling current).
Lot to be said for changing the brake fluid every two to three years (nobody does thou).

I am sad: I did last change the brake fluid 3 years ago: I am probably over the top with servicing: I do engine oil, both oil filters, fuel filter, air filter, gearbox and diff oils every year in my 17 years of ownership and I average under 5k miles a year in it.
The thing I normally like about it is quality spares can be cheap: I currently have a shelf with new swivels and fitting kits, wheel hubs with new Timken bearings fitted, brake pads, antiroll bar droplinks, calliper bolts( I normally have spare callipers but used my last spare set). Wish I had looked for an ABS modulator block before the price rocketed.

I have a virtually identical picture with my son when he was 5 sitting on the bonnet of my silver Disco, not digital though. He's now about to turn 20!

There is normally a reasonable amount of room to work on a Defender, think I will take the wing off to make it easier!
Am managing with one walking stick short distances, think this will take me a while, the longer I stand the more pain I am in, at least the boat is finished.....
