I think some people just dont care, if you see one on the road (alive and well) simply stop turn off main headlights and they'll carry on across the road
I have a friend in a nearby village who has a whole family come to their back door and eat the cat food they put out. They also have a semi-wild cat that the food is mainly for, but there is no animosity twixt cat and hogs.40% down from what? Surely not since last year?!
Of course I'd rather see living ones but try not to be too down about seeing squashed ones, getting squished is undoubtedly a major pressure on their numbers but it does mean they are there in the first place. Such mixed emotion seeing a squished one for the first time in decades, since then, more squished ones and more live ones too. I wouldn't like to say their numbers are booming but they appear to be gaining a foothold locally after a pronounced absence. That said, not seen any this year yet....
Regarding keeping them as "pets", be careful who/where you tell. I bet there are lots of regulations and paperwork involved in order to do it legitimately.
but I do feel I'm imprisoning them and they should be free.
Hogs and critters? Yeeall you from TexasI saw a huge one in my front garden two days in a row, last week, but i also saw 3 dead ones on the roads in the same week.
I have a home made hog house in the ‘wilding patch’ of my garden, and I noticed last week that something has been in there and moved all the straw into the ‘bedroom’ area. I opened the lid for a sneak peek.
I always leave a cat bowl of water out for any hogs or other critters, and another full of water and pebbles, for bees to drink from.
There’s never any sign of hog dung in my yard, but my neighbour complained a few days ago that she is seeing it in hers a lot. She definitely doesn’t like hedgehogs.

. . . to be flattened when the taxi doing warp 9 coming up behind either shunts you over it, or overtakes you and does the job themselves . . .I think some people just dont care, if you see one on the road (alive and well) simply stop turn off main headlights and they'll carry on across the road
You don't see taxis on proper rural roads - they get scared!. . . to be flattened when the taxi doing warp 9 coming up behind either shunts you over it, or overtakes you and does the job themselves . . .
Living in an old farmhouse we get voles and fieldmice in the house quite often.I slowed down for a vole at the weekend , he was in the road in the middle of the day! I couldn't stop as there was a car right behind me
Got a mouse off the cat last week and let him go.
Missus thinks I'm mad!!!
Almost ready for the kebab stick.View attachment 308589The one on the right, Sonic, is seriously asleep.
Sounds just like our Westie unfortunatelyWe have to Hog proof the garden as our breed of dog is well known for being particularly partial to them and I would hate her to get one
