I don't fully agree with that, there are about 3-4 dealers on regularly and they are all active contributors to the forum in terms of advice/opinions/experience. I don't think people would entertain a dealer who rocked up and spammed every machine thread with their own kit if they weren't a regular or known to the forum in the main.
I threw a name out there along with s few others getting a mention, and I made s correction on a price as the impression could be got from reading a few posts that it's too pricey, I'm sure the OP will get a good machine from what's on offer and with the help of his fellow members. And lastly, a lot of the dealers on here do better deals than they would elsewhere, I know I often do so it benefits the forum too having a few dealers about im sure.

We could all send the OP a quote via PM and nobody would be any the wiser, but I felt the price issue needed addressing and it seems a bit sneaky. But point taken, it's hard to switch off sell mode when you get home of an evening sometimes.

I hope the OP gets an EWM
locally and uses my price to get a deal on his doorstep. Everybody's happy.

Personally I think we desperately need a dealer section on here, where dealers can offer equipment and deals to people who might be put off contacting them in other ways, no different to dealers putting used machines on eBay, except we wouldn't have to search for them.

I'm obviously one who offers units for sale but I think those of us who do, do it in a respectful and more importantly a fair and balanced way. I always try to balance any posts I write which include pricing of something from Lorch with mention of other comparable products from different manufacturers, giving options rather than stating buy XYZ from Lorch and don't listen to anything anyone else has said.

It's true that it's hard to disengage the salesman part of your brain, especially now with smart phones and the 24/7 world we live in, but none of us who sell machines for a living are going to get rich off the back of what the occasional member on here may or may not buy. I am obviously speaking for myself but I also think it applies to others I know from here with businesses, we don't do it for disingenuous reasons.

I'll keep any offerings to a PM from now on, hopefully no offence was caused.

I can see the dilemma and its a hard path for mods and dealers to navigate, trouble is I'm one of those people who would rather deal with people that I 'know' even if my knowledge of that person is based on a virtual world and how they conduct themselves on a forum such as this.

I've watched the way some of the dealers act on here with help and advice and when I get my TIG later this year its one of them that I'll contact. That is a positive step as until joining this forum I would have bought elsewhere.

So even if they ( dealers ) do it (support users on the forum) for the love of it - its a positive selling tool as well.

So my view for what its worth is status quo seems ok in the main body of the forum but a dealer section might be useful.

But beware - at the moment there is no direct dealer feedback, it wouldn't take more than one bad experience and a vociferous complainant to turn a thread into a hate war against the dealer involved, thats extra work for the mods and an unintended consequence of what seems a good idea.

I made a similar suggestion on a different forum and the response was .... oy! this isn't a democracy :-)

Personally I much rather those with a trade interest of any kind are upfront about thier day job - than keep tight lipped

I've used a friend's Thermal Arc 175se and it's a good little tool and he only paid around £220 for it, bargain at the time. I might try buying it of him as he has bought a Jasic multi function now.

Trouble is are we not taking sales away from weldequip, the site sponsor? Not saying Matt, and the other dealers don't contribute to the site but weldequip shop site is at the top of the site so he must be paying for it?

Got to say though I like the advice that some of the dealers give on here and are a worthy contribution to these threads.

No offence at all was taken and I fully understand moderating can be disliked or thought petty at times and even non democratic , although I do think the members here understand where it is coming from, I hope so anyways.

I also fully agree I would rather buy from a long time known member (dealer) off here than someone I don't know, you become to know the person and feel more confident to hand over your cash.

Why the rule exists would perhaps be clearer if members realised the large number of new members, well shall we say dealers, suppliers, agency's and scammers posing as Mr Average hobbyist welder who get banned before they even set foot in the threads, usually several a week, it's a behind the scenes section the mod's spend a fair bit of time on, removing the rule would allow not all but some of those in, you would then see a very different forum and certainly not one as friendly as it is now.

Anyone who reads the forum soon becomes aware who can supply them with a new welding set, they qualify for a trip to Specsavers if they don't, so all they have to do is pm the person of interest to them, exactly as I would do.

In the short time I have been a mod I should imagine I have banned well over 50 various tool suppliers, firms and other related scams, the other mods doing the same of course, so how many it has been over the years would be a massive amount.

Imagine even a quarter of those pushing for sales, the mods would have to be here full time to sort the fights and false feedback flying around.

I too have one of these, superb for the money but isnt one of the other brands the same box different labels.

I Like dealer opinions, from what ive seen on here its good balanced advice, invaluable when your in undecided what do i need to invest in mode.

There will not be a dealer section on here.
We value the input that the dealers give on here as it makes people make informed choices when they want to purchase a machine but we don't want to see any of them openly advertising.
If a thread leads to a sale then that's great, but if we allow dealers to openly sell then it becomes a free-for-all.
It's very rare we remove or edit a post by any of our known dealers, or at least it was until recently.
