Dealing with people with items for sale

I am having a rant.
What's the matter with people who advertise machinery and stuff on eBay and other sites. Have they lost there balls to have a deal. Everyone has a price of what they want. So in my book you meet up. Chat about it.. meet in the middle slap hands and deal. Easy. Sorted. Everyone is happy. But no. It's the same ol crap. My mate says it's worth this .internet says it's worth x amount . Load of crap. I appreciate people want what they can get.
I tried the other week to have two deals with two pieces of machinery. No chance.
It will make more at auction. Turns out if he accepted my offer then he would of had a pocket of cash and more that the bids. Rant over.....I think.

It's even worse when you offer free stuff and even offer to deliver. I've been messed around on Shpock and Freecycle no end. They have no respect. I put loads of good free stuff on Shpock and a couple of children's scooters for £2.00 each. One bloke took the lot then tried to beat me down to a £1.00 each on the scooters. Cheeky bugger got nothing. A handshake does it for me, no going back.

I've given up on Freecycle. Tried to give stuff away but people don't show up to collect it. I now put everything on Gumtree and charge £1 or some small amount to put off the time wasters.

I've had some bargains on ebay where I've been the only bidder and got things too cheap. I got a nice old 1HP motor for 99p. When I went to pick it up, I felt like I'd stole it off the old chap. I did give him £1 and said he could keep the change though...

With this buying and selling two things that really annoy me are POA....and agricultural facebook selling groups who dont put up a price. How do you expect to sell it if your afraid to tell the world a price.

if there's no price I don't bother.........
mind bought some stuff once thru ebay, paid a friend to collect it.......cos the lady didn't like the price she got, gave all hell to the friend....
you certainly meet em......
sell the odd thing on flee bay, people don't even read the add properly........!!!!!!!!

some people think its worth loads within there area but what they forget is its not in other areas for the same stuff

no offense to others but i find within the middle some items really do hold there price well compared to other areas if its in a hard place to reach the value decreases considerably

this is what ive found out whilst using ebay

as goes for bargains ive had many from there but ive also overpaid on another should have left it on an offer but decided to pay the full asking price instead

I bought a lathe recently Pete posted a link to on here, phoned the guy and asked him a couple of questions and said I would have it and did he want me to pay a deposit or the full asking price via the internet or cash on collection. He seemed shocked that I wanted to buy without seeing it and obviously started to wonder if it was too cheap or I was trying to con him somehow. He accepted a PayPal deposit and cash on collection. He helped me load up when I collected and I took him down the pub for Sunday lunch and a few beers on top for his trouble. turns out he paid much more for it but kept a lot of the accessories for his other lathe and had been advertised for more previously without any takers. It was a real bargain for me, perhaps not for someone that would break it and I probably would have bought at his previously advertised price had I known about it but probably haggled a bit then! Nice guy and I did enjoy his company over lunch too.

I've just had to bid someone I know for a lathe.
I said a price, he said a higher price, we came to a agreement in the middle, then added me stuff to the pile, renegotiation and deal done.

It's easy if people understand that cash in hand is easier than the hassle of wasters/ebay and the likes.

I would rather one person turn up and by my item (£50 advert) at £35 rather than 10 people say they want it at £50 and never show etc.

on another note what some might class as scrap value for what there selling when getting rid of

but my scrap price is different to many others

now if it dosnt sell by the buyer and im interested in it i will consider its scrap value price and offer my own price for it

I’ve put items for sale on eBay that are worth and do go for £300 only to get messages offering £150 cash am I interested ? No thanks if I wanted £150 it would be up at £150 buy it now cash only.

People have different views on value. I’ve seen second hand stuff on eBay go for £100 that’s only £10 less than it is to buy new. I’m happy to leave them to it. If thry think it’s worth that much then good luck with the sale to them.

I do agree on the free things it is a risk of getting messed about. I very much like things to reused if they can but sometimes it just gets really hard work.

I'll put the starting bid at what I want for it.If you want to make an offer you can but I probably won't accept it.If lots of people want it they can bid higher, if only one person is willing to pay that price then they get it at starting bid, if no one is willing to pay that price I'll either keep it or relist at a lower price.Had a bike on ebay recently, virtually new, starting bid £130 (what I paid for it) normal price was £300, some offers me £70.It didn't sell so I'll give it a month and relist at the same price, if it doesn't sell I'll keep it til one of my kids wants it.

His words when I laughed at his price. They sell for more than that on ebay.
Didnt have an answer for me when o asked why he hadn't sold them on ebay.
Have 2 no3 both cost me a score each.
Would have given 50-60 for both happily.

Thank you for using the term " haggle."
It gets my back up when people say "barter" when describing haggling.
No, barter means I want you to swap your item for 10 of my freshly laid eggs mate
