DCM is a chlorinated solvent that doesn't stick to any adsorbent filtration media. Therefore filtering RPE must not be used.
The only type of filtering RPE thats suitable for DCM is an AX filter. This is not for use as a control measure during work. AX filtering RPE should only ever be used as an escape set in the event of an emergency
After engineering control if RPE is required it must be a full face air supplied unit. The compressor should be mounted in a separate building as DCM vapour is heavier than air so sinks to floor level.
Yesterday i was investigating a fatal accident involving and 21 year old and DCM. He was overcome by fumes in small shed and was found slumped over a tank. He "knew" what he was doing and had selected the "Correct RPE"
