I had an R-tech,
Had two machines replaced by them within a few months,

Two ways of looking at that,
Good warranty?
Bad machines?

I have Oerlikon Mig Citoarc its been great had it for 10 year or so , dont know much about their Tig machines though!

Its probably ideal for some, but if it happened to me twice in two months, theyd have got back a pretty unrecognisable ball of twisted steel and plastic!
But a welder for earning money and just a hobby are opposite ends of the spectrum so fair enough really

Its hard to go wrong with a dynasty for tig, besides the price of replacement main boards

Speaking of Dynastys, anyone on here ever used a dynasty 700 (or other huge tig)? What's the hottest weld you've ever run?

Theres a guy on the welding web that runs a batch of dynastys inc the 700,
Think he mentioned that he never did anything that required more than about 500 amps,

Due to the amount that Pulse mig has improved in modern times, it's getting increasingly rare now that people buy tigs bigger than 300-400 amps for manual applications. 300 amps is generally the more popular.

Ewm,fronius,esab,lorch,miller
In no particular order.
I simply could not choose between them.
Others may be just as good I simply have not had as much experience with em.

It's a good point that each brand has strengths and weakness
I'd go fronius for AC Tig (never used a better machine for Alu)
Miller and ewm both for general Tig excellent all round miller for basic mig, lorch for reliability (any machine that can be dropped from 2 feet and used is a plus in my eyes, esab for pulse mig (u82 super pulse) awsome but not user friendly. Lorch panels I find the easiest to get around with miller and esab for there sub arc equip lincoln is pretty good also.

I do love murex but I don't think I've ever used a "real " murex welder. Usually esab or stel
But murex gas equip cannot be beaten.

Well their TIG welders are actually very good. I had customers who were welding in Russia and were using Citotig 2200 Experts which some people from Denmark brought there. After coming back home they decided to buy only these welders. At the moment they have around 15pcs and the guy told me that this Citotig expert is welding much better than Kemppi. I don't know if you know but Citotig 240 AC/DC and 310 AC/DC are produced in Kemppi's factory in Finland.

Last time there was a guy and tolde me that they were checking EWM, what is has inside and they were shocked that machine for 7k euro had chinese components :O
In my humble opinion companies like Esab, Lincoln or Fronius base more on their fame obtained through all these years. Probably you won't find a person who doesn't know these brands, but when talking about Oerlikon - it is rarely recognizable by people.

You will be hard pushed to find any brand of machine that does not have a component of some description made in china.
EWM is extremely high quality. The triton 220 was one of the best acdc machines ever produced IMO.

Oerlikon are fairly well known in industrial applications, more people would recognise the Saf brand. As far I know machines that are not made for them by someone else are made in there own factory in Slovakia. Very little is of French origin now

Oerlikon are better known for good consumables. I have not used there standard equipment so I cannot comment. That said I've never heard any complaints and no news is often good news.
I have however seen airliquide automation products and sub arc equipment. Seems pretty state of the art stuff but no where near as durable and solid to the likes of the lincoln esab miller range.

What kind of consumables have you used or got experience with ? Too bad their welders are not so popular in UK. They have really nice machines, all produced in europe with NO chinese components.
Not so long time ago, they have introduced new welder : MMA/ TIG / MIG-mag together with 10 synergic programmes. It is called Citomig 200 MP and it is much better than lincoln speedtec or esab caddy mig. If you want take a look at it

Luc, how can you be sure there are no Chinese components used? When companies like Siemans have production facilities in China as do all of the major semi conductor production companies.

And fluxofil M10 metal cored wires are the 2 I've been using recently.
Very good metal cores, no silicon islands low spatter. As good as the esab 46LS which is also a great metal core.
