Liquid paint or chalk markers are both good, masking tape is also handy for a straight cut on a curved surface.

Light pressure, a 2mm slitting disc bounces far less than the thicker cutting discs. Mark a good visible line with chalk/ through blue and take your time, as PDG says, score it and work deeper througv

Cutting straight with an angle grinder takes a little practice, Just like hacksawing straight, Don't let it get away from you, go steady and constantly adjust to keep straight. Its like a muscle memory thing, After a while you will be able to keep straight without even thinking.

Remember like bikes you're looking where you want to go, not what you want to miss, so look just ahead of your cut.
Pay attention to the sparks off the disc (assuming there are some); use them to keep the disc perfectly perpendicular to the plane of the sheet. If you see two spark lines from above then you're off cock. Twist your wrist gently to line them up into one and that's the disc in line again.

Support the sheet both sides, good straight clear line to follow either scribed or felt pen, 1mm discs, hold the grinder in two hands with the hand near the cutting disc resting on the job and the other in the air, get yourself in line with the line/grinder and cut towards you watching the line.

I usually clamp a piece of wood or angle iron to the line and cut on the waste side.

On cuts longer than the diameter of the disc I score a short section with the grinder then cut it to full depth and then score the next section etc. This helps to keep the cut straight as you can feel whether or not the back of the disc is running in the centre of the cut. Sounds way more complicated than it is.

Don't bury the whole of the disc in the material, you want to use the edge of the disc and just let it break through on the underside.

thats is if theyve got a compressor as well
use angle iron
if your doing alot of cuts in sheet for a very long time invest in one there worth it if your tinkering with odd bits then stick to grinder otherwise it becomes an expensive toy to play with

already done that and it wasnt my fault as didnt know they was there
it was we got a fire
pulled the rags in middle got told that extinguisher wont work stamp stamp stamp until i pulled the trigger and it was out quickly been taking mickey out since then about itAnd remember the main thing.........let the tool do the work,not you
exactly don't force it, take the time it takes, and guide it. It will only go where you let it, so don't let it run away from you. Go slowly until you get more confident with it, then speed up acordingly. if you're still having problems, leave a bigger margin for error on the cut line , and then grind it back to it when you're finished cutting.
