I need to cut up some reinforced rubber, AKA motorcycle tyres. The rubber is excellent grip for climbing shoes, but the one I got has a small amount of steel ply. Previous ones of this model have been a full kevlar ply. Later models have been a much thicker steel ply.
Tin snips, metal sheers, wire cutters, wont cut it with the rubber - about 8-10mm thick. Hacksaw is not precise enough but seems to work. Grinder works but it stinks, its quick so may just have to live with it. I wont do it often
As theres plenty of thickness I may cut out my patches, then grind off the inner rubber to about 3mm deep and pull the ply out.however I like the idea of reinforcement provided I can remove it from the edges. Acid may degrade the rubber.
Any ideas?
