Cutting disks that don't spark

I must admit I've just done a search and can not find any high speed blades to replace an abrasive disc

If they did exist manufacturers would be shouting it from the rooftops as currently you need an abrasive OR(and??) a tct saw.

I'm not doing this just to be argumentative but if someone didn't know and took that advice on face value they could end up wearing a tct necklace, or at very least knackering a blade in short order. Bad advice IMO and it's just being touted to sound clever.

I'd be happy to be corrected with a proper link but the fact no one else has seen them either makes me pretty confident they don't exist.

14" tct blades typically have a max rpm of 1450, abrasive saws will run at twice that speed, mine is 3000 rpm

Actually just double checked mine, its 4000 rpm, the tyrolit discs I'm using are rated at 4400rpm, so good luck finding a tct blade to run at that kind of speed,
To the op, stick to using the correct discs for the machine and stay safe,

No link, but Amada do them as do Makita and Diablo.

I have the Amada as they were given to me by a rep who I have known for years, these have a speed rating of 4300 RPM which is above my saw speed of 4000 RPM.

You may well be able to get TCT blades that run at 4000rpm as @pdg says I would say that they are not designed to cut steel. I have a Dewalt 872 and the no load speed is 1300rpm. I get my blade repaired/sharpened at Tewkesbury Saw Company and they say those blades designed for steel are already pushing the boundaries in these kind of configurations. Once you have the TCT saw then in the long run it will work out cheaper if you don't abuse it and you get full depth cuts for the life of the blade.

Rubbish, they are designed solely for steel including structural steels and are designed to run on these chop saws and I have no concern for what you say, what the manufacturers say is the only important bit for me.

In the long run it works out cheaper to run the TCT blades as they require much less power to drive them and outlast multiple abrasives.

In all seriousness though, the fact that these blades seem to represent a very small proportion of the tct steel cutting discs seem to suggest they are very specialised. I'd say that >99 % of the available discs are the lower speed variety, and the fact that every manufacturer uses low speed tct saws kind of tells you that this is the best solution.

I think you will find these 'steel' cutting high speed TCT blades you refer to are for wood with SMALL pieces of steel in. i.e, nails, screws, etc. NOT steel rod, bar, sections.

The Diablo 14 inch blades. They do some higher RPM ones BUT they are a much smaller diameter (8 inch) and state they are used for light cutting (1/8 inch wall thickness max, 1 inch diameter)

I am always open to learning and I have looked on the Amada website

They all say Cold Saw and the spindle bores are not the standard 25.4 and they don't do a 355mm disc, the spindle bores and disc sizes imply to me they are for proper Cold Saw machines not small chop saws.There is a difference, I have a Dewalt 872 which as far as I am concerned is a TCT metal chop saw it's not a cold saw.

I am all for a bit of debate but for that to happen you need to be able to back it up, people snipeing and make stupid comments doesn't help anyone but you cannot keep jumping on these threads like an expert yet not be able to prove any of it. If you are a friend of the Amada rep to the point he will give you £100+ blades then you should easily be able to provide us with some proper documentation to show that these blades can be used in an abrasive chop running at 2-3000 rpm+

If you did that you would be praised as you would save a lot of people money but instead you are just making yourself look silly for no benefit to yourself.

The blade below is rated at 6500 rpm but it's only 9" we use them on circular saws for cutting wagon doors with galv sheet in them. They don't last very long as you can see from the missing tooth. If were lucky we can get them resharpened once before this sort of thing happens. I personally am not keen on using them they don't feel safe but for some reason they won't buy rage saws. We also have a chop saw with a 14" tct blade that we use for ally and wood, every now and again the chop saw grabs cutting ally it's happened to me and luckily its only been the ally that's got me not the blade. The thought of cutting steel on one scares me, I really really wouldn't recommend it and while I don't mind seeing a video of someone trying to let the gas out of spray can I really really don't want to see a video of someone trying to cut steel on a chop saw with a blade not designed for it.

@outofthefire this is where the arguement is, the blades for things like Dewalt 872 are specific TCT blade for cutting steel that run at 1300rpm, the tips have a special angle for the purpose. That being said by some is you can take the abrasive wheel out of metal chop saw and stick a TCT one in that will happily run at 3-4000rpm and is designed to cut steel.

Interestingly the manual for a Dewalt Abrasive Chop Saw clearly states "Do not use circular saw blades or any other toothed blades with this tool"

I did ask for a link but the best info you could provide was a very generic "several manufacturers", rather than any meaningful info.

Not at all, people are claiming they know more than manufacturers of these products and nicely cherry picking extracts from their literature to suit their argument rather than deal with the real issue. High speed blades are nothing new and Amada do a range of 350/355mm blades with a 25.4mm bore as I have two of them.

If you bother to go on their site you will also find a range of specialised blades for different applications, and while I would admit this is relatively new technology it is interesting to see people post tripe, specifically the optimum cutting speeds for old low speeds for cutting steel to high speed cutting blades, this suggests their ego is more important than fact. How would they explain the emergency or rescue saw blades which cut through almost anything as it is this technology which has directly led to this high speed cutting revolution in TCT blades. If we take it a stage further and look at Diamond blades they are streaks ahead of TCT and we can find a whole host of manufacturers making diamond blades for chopsaws which are direct abrasive replacements and run at even higher speeds.
