Unlike when they came out the factory! You need to make sure the basic frame is geometrically square and accurate
They already have great theft prevention - a 1300 VW engine
Good luck with it, they do have a VIN stamped on them somewhere mine was UVA something. The reason for the modified front screen area is that stock there is just not enough headroom without using the god-awful UVA seats.

A big 'glass glider could lift that off the runway, I am skeptical of your theoryYour probably right with the Glider scenario, Makes a little sense now
Hi & welcome Sam Please STOP cutting steel, you're running out of chassis Seriously, looking forward to seeing this one progress and IMHO, I'd forget making it road legal and have fun in it instead

Welcome Sam and keep us updated.
I’d get that blasted and start a fresh build
what engine will you run?
Looks like someone had some fun with that over the years. Do you have some plan behind all your cutting and amputating, or just getting rid of the ugly and the rusty?
You need to make sure the basic frame is geometrically square and accurate, before you start putting ‘fresh steel’ back in, as our American brethren call it.
Also I knew @Revs1972 has recently gotten a jd2 bender and did rate it but I dont know what sizes it can do
Absolutely! Much more fun off roadHi Nick , don’t worry the savagery has ended , I was clearing all damaged and rusted out sections .
I had given up on the road legal side of it as I would take too much to get it back legal . This will be a field car so to speak
Looks like quite a mad project. Keep us posted.
Good evening Gents /Gentess's
I am based in south Somerset , between Taunton and Yeovil and would be interested to hear if there is anyone local who may be able to bend / form 42.4 x 3mm tube and also if anyone knows of any outfits who can carry out the shotblasting , as I know of two firms , one which isnt an option and the other whos seems wary , but at a guess would be about 1 to 1.5 tops for the initial blasting .
Cheers Sam
Hello and welcome.
Try ics in cullompton they will probably blast that chassis or the other option may be acid dipping. They do alot of work for tracked vehicle manufacturers.
I will have a sealey mig for sale in a few weeks and not too far from you devon border.
Also I knew @Revs1972 has recently gotten a jd2 bender and did rate it but I dont know what sizes it can do. Or build a copy of the american style affordable bender (what I think I will end up doing)
Hi Sam
Looks like an interesting project, do you mind if I ask why 42.4 tubing? At first I thought it must be an imperial size, but it doesn’t seem to correspond to any standard fraction.
If you were able to gain access to something like a JD2 tube bender there doesn’t seem to be a former available.
Good luck with it either way
Edit
Just looked again on Stakesys, I was looking at tube dies but there is a 42.4 mm CHS die set.
I have a JD2 model 3 myself but don’t have that die and am about 300 miles from you
Still good luck with the project
