Any reputable crane company will be able to give you s copy of the crane's "duties" - A chart or charts showing what it can lift at what radius etc. but they do take a bit or interpreting and consideration of variables etc.
A second quote from another company may be the way to go.

As above, the duty charts are readily available on line for the various makes of mobile - Demag, Grove, Liebherr, Terex etc.

There's a narrow boat sitting in a canal side boat yard, the yard owners ( well known swindlers ) say they want the boat owner to pay for them to move another boat out of the way that they put there before they can lift his boat back in the water. Its not totally blocked in, its around a third of the weight of the maximum lift they say the crane can do, 30 tons.
The crane driver does what he's told by the manager, so no help there.
I will measure it all up tomorrow.

I've seen a boat lifted clean over a barn, and it was a seventy footer too. Whereabouts are you?

Consider that the crane's max lift will be at minimum radius and its capacity will be reduced in proportion to the outreach so that 30Ton may be greatly reduced if the boat has to be picked up and the radius increased to get it back in the water.

It depends on the design of the crane, however as others have stated a cranes SWL often decrease as the radius increases, a crane capable of 30T an minimum radius may well only have a capacity of a few tons at maximum radius. The weight of the rigging gear has to be taken into account as well, further reducing the useful capacity of the crane.

Used to be! Been alerted to this post by a member of a mutual 'other' forum, as he thought I might contribute.
Been fabricating and in the crane game for well over 35 years, but had to give up when the ol' body let me down!!
There are a lot of variables to consider before being able to give you any real help on this Q.
As others have pointed out the capacity of a crane is wholly dependent on the 'radius' it is lifting at - the point from the centre of the turntable to the point above which the hook hangs, horizontally on flat level ground.
Cranes are normally rated at their max cap., at their minimum working radius eg - 30 tons at 2 metres rad. - this reduces as the rad. increases, sometimes because of reduced stability, or more often these days, the structural integrity of the crane's structure.
Any crane is supposed to have a working and fully functional SLI (safe load indicator) to warn the op. of impending max capacity being reached and to alert him to reaching it. Very often a modern machine can be wholly stable, but the boom/jib will fold due to its strength limit having been reached.
Older machines were usually beyond their stability limit well before reaching structural limits.
Either way, the SLI's function is imperative and more so with newer tools - the seat of yer pants gives no warning of a structural collapse, as opposed to the stirrings of movement of the machine as stability limits are approached.
So all that said, as I say without the make, model, size of the crane in question and the radius at which it would be required to work and what the exact load is likely to be, it's impossible to be much real help, without quite a few dimensions.
Again as I say the older the m/c the more it can be 'pushed' (although you shouldn't do it, there are margins which are 'reasonably safe' to extend into, with older cranes as they're much more ruggedly built on the whole), but it is purely down to the skill and experience of the operator, just how 'greedy' he can be

If it's there own crane in there own yard then they are taking the P### expecting someone to pay them to move the boat they put in the way! You need to have a look at the load chart in the cab and take any measurements relative to the centerline of the cranes slew ring, also head hight may be a consideration - will the crane be able to lift the boat high enough to clear the other boat.

Could be it's the ground that's the limiting factor, rather than the crane's capacity. If it is actually the crane's limit I would look at getting hold of a big winch and a ground anchor and drag that puppy closer to the crane. I suppose they want quite a few hundred quid from you for getting a contract lift done from outside?

i wouldnt have thought they would let u go to that extreme across the yard . what would happen if it all went pear shaped no matter how it was lifted 
insurance claim who is to blame and going to pay for it . `u cant give advice on something u havent seen or dont know the circumstances

A Rapier 1405 is an 80 tonner at 3 metres IIRC.
I wouldn't crank up the motor/interupt the day's work for 60 quid - pay the man and have done - get yer boat on't water.
May be annoying to you, but the guy runs a biz and time is money. 3 or 4 man job to shift the boat in the way, with the crane, which all costs money.

60 Quid! A trolley jack, a few bits of scaffold and a crow bar and it will be shifted in no time!
