i see what you mean but you only talk about penetration in relation to the root run and you can see this easily by looking at the reverse side of the jointButt, yes. But I’m looking for an alternative to this as it’s not real-life or would be done in industry- lots of vertical up run beads on a 6mm butt joint with a weaving capping run not allowed?
Oh I agree it’s easy to see the pen but my issue is that students doing this aren’t learning the correct way to weld a butt weld what with the multiple single runs, which look awful, by the way.Just seen your procedure, seems straightforward enough, like I said you only need a ruler to measure penetration, it only applies to run 1

Agree, and that’s what we are doing. But I am looking to see if any other alternatives can be found. Besides, there’s a heck of a lot of bevelled 6mm going to waste on practice runs.with respect it is what the job calls for
