Corona bench drill

My little Herbert drill was looking lonely, so I bought him a friend.

Cost me £56, not bad considering I usually see them listed around the £200 mark and it's already got a single phase motor in it.

Any idea what it weighs? I need to lift it in and out the car.

Take out bolts until you can lift bits

Definitely the way to do it. I always move mine around that way. Column separated from base. They may not be massive but they're damned heavy. Whip the motor plate off too if you're carrying it yourself. It's only one nut/lever holding it on, and you'd obviously need to disconnect the wiring, (unless they've bypassed the internal 3 phase gubbins and just wired the motor directly?).

Did you take the step pulley off the motor or Is that the original pulley on the back?
What speed range does it/should it have?
Does it have a Morse taper spindle or something else?

Aye, I took the original pulley off and just put that little one on there. Only has the one speed setup as it is, and that's slow , but I prefer to run slow for drilling, so it's of no detriment. Taper wise, it's MT1.

That's basically the top half of my 1AX, assuming it's as similar (and origional save for the motor) under the covers as the basic casting is i'd expect 300 - 1500 ish rpm and a poly vee belt set up

Sounds roughly the right speed range. I'll have a look at the speed plate tomorrow and get the exact speeds for the original pulley setup. Corking drills, aren't they.

It'll work out in the end. The seller may just work away or the like. Unless it gets to a couple of week and there's still no response, there's no point worrying.

The seller also had some massive lathe faceplates which I liked the look of (Abom79 welding table) and a fly press with the tee slotted table from a radial drill as a stand but they both got big up to £50+ at the last minute.

Ah. I'd read that the wrong way.

Once you do get your hands on it, you'll be impressed with the quality. They're a sturdy bit of kit. The only thing which could be classed as letting them down slightly is the small taper, but I've merrily drilled 1/2" holes in 10mm mild with that one, and I only have it running on a round leather belt.

I say should because the seller is being weird. It's possible English just isn't his first language but his messages are worded a bit odd.

Sounds promising. Let us know when you have it. With regard the poor English, it's not unusual. I'm surprised some folk can actually string a full sentence together, ne'er mind making it make sense.

Checked the speed plate on mine, btw. It's does 1000RPM to 3000RPM with a 2850RPM motor.

1540, (or 1450. I may have got that wrong way round ), and 2090 are the middle speeds. Just checked whilst I was out there, as I couldn't remember those earlier.

He told us to call before we collect, we called and got no answer, so we haven't collected it.

Got it home today, it's a lot bigger and heavier than I was expecting.
I didn't take a picture before taking it apart;

There was a bare neutral conductor behind the switch so I've taken all the perished old wireing out, in case there's other faults I can't see. I need to get a new belt too as it had a V belt running backwards on flat belt pulleys.
3 speeds (950, 1670 & 3035)
It all seems to be in good shape, I'm very pleased
