I had a visit to lands end on Monday and decided to drive on to st Ives via the north coast road. Great drive just wish I was in my mx5 and not the other half’s Audi q2. I had seen the tin museum and that was on my mind to goIf you like towns & cities, Truro & Falmouth are worth a look. Catch the P&R into Truro though. I haven’t been for several years, but the maritime museum in Falmouth is/was worth a look if you are into maritime history. About 40 to 50 minutes from you is Geevor tin mining museum at Botallack, close to St Just. If you decide to visit Lands End, park at Sennon Cove & walk up over the cliffs, it’s a lovely walk, the Lands End site is dire, but the cliffs & view is lovely.
EDIT, Geevor museum & a walk to Lands End will take up best part of a day, drive out or back via the StJust to St Ives north coast rd through Zennor, it is great, it featured on a TV prog. a few years back as one of Britain’s best drives with Richard Wilson. It’s tight & winding, open top double decker does it though.
The Eden project has been mentioned and it’s one of them while we are this way it’ll be hard not to visitThe Eden Project is very very impressive. Absolutely should be on your list.
Go to Padstow for Rick Stein's fish restaurants if you're that way inclined (and be prepared to spend a fortune)
We stopped in St Agnes near Perranporth and we walked to Wheal Coates, the iconic wheal. We also walked from St Agnes to Perranporth on a pretty stormy day, along the cliff path, and I don't think I'd ever had so much pleasure from one walk. The whole coastline is littered with mines and caves and funky geological oddities. It's absolutely stunning.
Charlestown is a beautiful postcard town that looks like something out of Pirates of the Caribbean, and has some nice places for scran.
That’s why in my post I said walk from Sennon Cove, the theme park thing is a blot on the landscape! The coastline is lovely on the way up though looking out to Longships light house & on a good day the Isles of Scilly.I found Lands End awful too, especially as I remember it when I was a kid. The whole "lands end experience " , in 3d, left me shaking my head. Just why? You can just go outside and see the actual thing!
Another vote for Kynance cove.View attachment 418747View attachment 418748
