Copper Piping

I'm needing to buy a fair bit of copper piping, 15mm stuff. Where is the best place to source?

I'm making a air line system for the shop, am I best using soldered joints or compression joints?

I am making 2 systems, one for the powder gun running from me lil oil less compressor into a dedicated room for masking, coating and curing. and the other from my main compressor to run air tools and pressure pot in my dirty room. I have enough 10mm piping and bender so i am thinking of using that for the system from the oil less to run the powder gun as it doesn't require much air at all. Any Problems using 10mm?

Not into plastic mate, don't fancy it shattering under pressure or if something smacks it by accident.

Plastic pipe won't shatter, its not brittle. As a test hit some with a hammer to put your mind at ease.

I have heard some horror stories, from the Internet tho.....

The other downside of plastic is it isn't no way near the cooling efficiency of copper, which for my needs is quite a deciding factor as I'm going for a home made and do air cooler

You don't get much cooling effect with plastic to condence the water out.

I do all* the maintenance for a large wood import and manufacturing company, and ALL of the airline is plastic. They have never had a problem with it, and believe me the idiots there have tried

The OP never stated they wanted cooling, fit a condenser if you are concerned about moisture, and be confident there is no water.

I need cooling, doing blasting. If you look at the link you'll see a homemade cooling system which should hopefully suit my needs.

depends on how much bread u have to spare to buy one big ££££. i just use a secondary tank at the end of the line for extra cooling then a water seperator on the pot , nowt fancy and if i wanted run cold water over it with hose pipe or i could dunk it in a water barrel cheap as chips

should get enough water out of the air with that many drops and sufficient travel to cool the air sufficiently for the water trap and oil filter to get the air clean enough for blasting.

I know. The stuff at the wood yard is like large bore plastic water fittings, it's fast to install, leak free, and importantly quick to modify. I've also used domestic for a install in workshop I had a few yrs ago, testing it for my house.

The myth about plastic piping shattering originates in the US where some of their water services are run is a fragile rigid pipe and a few twits used it for air. Here in the UK we use blue MDPE pipe for water services. It is far more flexible than the other stuff even when cold and is rated for any pressure that you are likely to be using it. Personally I've used blue MDPE water service pipe for air distribution since the 1980's when it replaced the previous black stuff and had not a single issue. Here on the farm I have literally hundreds of yards of the 25 mm stuff carrying air from building to building in trenches underground - again no issues whatsoever. I have a 'ring main' of the stuff at high level round my main workshop - no issues.
