confused about HVLP gun pressure

depends how much gathers, the volume of air passing through will carry some along you seem to have gone to great lengths when in reality a good filter would have done the job you need

it will reduce the amount of water in the pipe and condense it but coiled up pipes will also restrict the cfm flow of air passing through it

The 3-stage coalescing micro-thingy filters were hundreds of pounds. The bucket might have been a step too far, but the rest.. well it's 15mm copper pipe with drip legs where I used to just use a long rubber hose wrapped up over the beams.

lol, yeah. I'm going to bypass the reel, and see what changes when the bucket coil is removed.

Still, I don't understand how it can be possible to have "30 psi with trigger pulled", when the gun is like a massive friggin hole though. I mean, I was getting 30 psi on the gauge with the trigger pulled, but that was 100 psi feeding into the 9mtr hose reel, and it was a lot of air coming out of the gun.

What is the air requirement of your gun with a 1.8 tip in it, do you have the specs.

high velocity (loads of air) lp low pressure (at the air cap) not going into the gun

best bet is increase your hose size. fit a water seperator both ends of hose one near the gun other on tank . roughly set your pressure out of tank and start a test spray .with a bit of practice u will find the best setting for use on the gun and also the thickness of the paint that can be sprayed

They list tips 1.3, 1.5 and 1.8, but don't give different cfm for different tips.
They say 4.5 - 6cfm
22 psi at inlet (which I have been aiming for now, with trigger pulled.. but like I say, it gives a huge blast and requires my wall regulator to be almost fully open... putting around 100psi into the 9mtr hose reel that feeds the gun)

I do also have one of those on-gun water filter/catchers. The ones with the tiny gold beads in them.

It looks a bit weird this gun. It looks like the 1.5 and 1.8 share the same cap. leaving a hole around the tip. Does that make sense?

Sorry, no, what I mean is, I seem to have a 1.8 cap, but the needle/tip is too small.

Looks like this. Might this be why it draws so much air with the 1.8 cap?

Good them specs, Air consumption 9cfm on the top 4.5-6cfm on the bottom. anyway get a bigger hose.

Yes mine's like that, except I have the filter before the regulator, and mine is one of those clear/blue filters with the small beads and the "hat" in it.
