i do not see any vents up in the loft, none in the roof, eves or soffits

yes gas boier, no drains are leaking no, but the pipes are so cold up there they are dripping,
it dont hep that the loft is packed full of usefull stuff too!

It's most probably condensation caused by the boiler being warm and the roof being extremely cold. Even insulation will not help reduce it if this is the case as the source of heat is in the loft especially if the pipes are not insulated get some lagging on them!
Reason I was in a loft today was due to a burst pipe that wasn't insulated. It ruptured and flooded through two floors sockets and lights before it was spotted by the next door neighbor!

i remember going to view a house to buy agent opened the door to water pouring through the ceilings and ceiings on the floor, we didnt buy that one

true i have not noticed it before, we have also had the log burner on a lot more now that gas is so expensive and the chimney breast is up there also

The trouble is trying to keep the warm air hitting the cold roof. I'm sure some more modern vapor barriers allow condensation to wick through whilst keeping the rain out but felt is not good at doing that. I would keep an eye on it over the next couple of weeks and see if it improves. Might be worth over insulating the ceilings with another 170-200mm if you have the room, time and money, that may stop some of the heat from the rooms below finding its way up there.
The chimney may be not helping although I would imagine most of the heat will have already been absorbed by the brickwork lower down. How warm is the chimney up there have you felt it to see if it's a potential addition to the problem?

Was in mine yesterday, definitely some condensation around. But it's perfect conditions for it. Still, very cold, windows not getting opened. I'm not too worried, I suspect that when the wind picks up again and temp warms up, things will dry out again. Surely it can take a bit of buffering. Will check again next week.

This weather unless you have a super insulated home and roof structure then your going to see condensation marks on the underfelt and even more so on the breathable membrane but on the top side of this product...nothing to worry about,as soon as we loose the sub temps it will be bone dry again.
My bungalow built late 60's has it's original non-breathable felt.
First winter, not long after buying it, noticed the whole of the underside of the felt was soaking wet, and from the witness tide marks on all the timber, it had been an ongoing thing. Not rot anywhere, so it obviously dried out each time (plenty of woodworm though - which was why I was up there, spraying nasty stuff).
No vents at the eaves (bricks cemented in between wall plate and felt), no ridge vents, one double brick in one gable end (T-shaped building). Enormous amounts of insulation - previous owner was an elderly lady who took advantage of all the schemes going.
Got some advice from a few people and one day a bloke turned up and scared the living do-dar out of the other half by prancing about on the roof without warning her, and installed some vented tiles in place of selected originals - sort of a hooded cowl with mesh in to stop birds, a bit of pipe poked through a hole in the felt. Three front and back, three more on the side - two high, one low sort of arrangement.
No more condensation, no rain ingress, no birdies in loft. That was a decade ago.
