Computer problem

My computer runs windows 10 home. Its been great, but recently several things have happened, the solitaire game stopped working, i didn't mind but i don't like things stopping work for no reason. Today the little window tile on the bottom left hand corner of the screen has decided its not going to work anymore. When you click on it nothing happens.
It makes it difficult to access programs not on the desktop, and to log off, put it to sleep, or turn it off. My little niece uses the computer too and i am wondering if she did something to cause these issues.

Anyone have any idea how to solve these problems.

anyway you could try to bring the old stuff back by going into control panel and then taskbar and start menu

you could always try to back date your system but it dosnt always work when you do so

my advice if got kids get another pc for them to use then you wouldnt have this problem

Hey Ronan.

When you say "stopped working", how do you mean exactly?

The start button (the window tile) can be for a few reasons. Does it still respond to the Windows key (the same sort of icon on a key near to the space bar on the same row)? Does it also respond to Ctrl + Escape (the Windows key for people without one)?

Windows 10 doesn't like you using the start menu and will loose sh*the for you. I thing there is some relationship between clippy and windows 10s start menu. To fix you problem roll back to 7.

It was the windows key that wasn't responding. I did a system reset and its working now. This computer was crap until 10 came out and it actually transformed it performance wise. The niece has sims 4 and minecraft on the computer and does be messing around with them, as she is young she thinks she knows better than everyone else.

Seconded. We could get into an R-Tech against the rest-of-the-world style argument debate if we get onto the merits of Windows vs not-Windows, WinXP, Win7, Win8 or Win10.

Probably easiest to just state a single irrefutable fact; Windows is better for mortal users than macs or Linux, and Windows 10 is better than all previous incarnations.

I am not a computer enthusiast, i use it for the web, email, photos and the kids use it for games. Any deeper into computing i don't want to get. This computer when i bought it had windows 7 on it and it was brutally bad, freezing up, unresponsive etc, but when 10 came out and i downloaded it, the computer was transformed.

I had win 7 on this laptop and never had a problem with it at all, I think there are various reasons why people have very different experiences, such as what internet sites they visit, and junk / free programs they try out which in turn just fills up the registry and even when the programs have been removed more often then not there are still remnants of it in the registry

I'm a fairly heavy home user and Windows 10 is the best Windows I've ever used

120k photos on Lightroom, huge photoshop files, iTunes and chrome with many many tabs plus the scanner running in the background is my pc most weekends, now I'm on the insider preview but the slow stream and I've not had a random crash or lockup for months, granted I do have a cast iron backup regime just in case tho

Isnt it strange that apparently even though W10 is so much better than any other OS on the planet, that MS are giving it away for free?

The fact that its being avoided by very large numbers of highly proficient home and small business users, is also something that seems unusual bearing in mind that its FOC?

Could there possibly be built in problems with this OS, related to security matters, that provide good reason for it being provided FOC, and are the root cause of the myriad issues that seem to accompany this OS?

My ancient XP Dell Precision is still working just fine, and cant see any reason for getting the very latest machine and OS, in the same way as I wont be trading my old Colchester Bantam for a finicky and costly CNC machine, which I would probably struggle to even switch on.

im also a heavy user and have the pcs to go with it that ive built and installed myself with windows 7, I do use adobe and other heavy programe users and have scanners and printers in the back ground ready to be used when needed

i had 3 of my own on the go the other was for the kids to use and then a laptop

I like my games to play in the likes of tomb raider and need for speed but windows 10 wont play them and same with some of the other games that i have I also dont like where micro wants a copy of your hard drive or can do as it likes with your system as its worse than vista just as much as with micro spying and removing things from your system

i don't buy all the MS spying stuff, I have a hardware firewall with very very strict rules so I can access my work stuff at home (customer data and financial information) and if they were "spying" on me then the logs would be full, but they are not

Any new connection in or out has to be explicitly allowed so nothing is slipping through

ahem ahem, whats wrong with us vista users???? i cant believe we are being excluded yet again purely because we choose to use the far superior and by far the best OS ever conceived...

I was on Vista and had no problems. My wife's computer was on 7 and when it updated to 10 I was impressed so I bought a cheap Windows 8.1 disc just to install and update to 10. I left 8.1 on for a couple of days just to see how it went and it was an abomination. My computer is pretty old and windows 10 has worked well on it apart from the onboard graphics which caused a freeze so I fitted a card with newer drivers and now the only problem I occasionally get is to do with the microsoft mouse driver which does lock up now and then but a quick reset button press fixes it. It boots up in 47 seconds now where it used to be a couple of minutes. I will probably build a new machine next rather than modify this one but it does work better and has definitely delayed the replacement.

gaz you did turn off the MS reporting software in the start up screens when loading 10

Have a watch don't believe it all but the reason for free is feasible.
I understand some of the switches revert on up date of program as well so check. we have it on 2 of our machines & it is faster, + we have had less freezing & glitches, BUT it wont run some of the older programs.
For some of the older programs An old Amstrad portable With DOS & WIN3.1
Another running Win 95 & XP in a partitioned disc
