This is a bit of a project tracking thread for me.
At the beginning of the summer I bought myself a large knee mill with 2 axis CNC controls.
I sited it roughly in place and haven't touched it since.
I've finally made enough clear space in the workshop so that I can start organizing my metalworking area so it will soon be time to get the mill up and running.
Couple of jobs need doing first which are routing some compressed air around the workshop to the mill and installing a longer power cable to reach the nearest 3ph socket.
I then have to move the mill back by about 600mm and rotate it a little. I can't use the forklift for this as I don't have the space so it's going to have to be man power. The mill weighs in at around 2200KgS and unfortunately the base of the casing is not flat so pipe rollers are out.
Once that's done I need to install some leveling feet and then I can power it up.
I've been reading the manual on the conversational CNC controller (an early Acu-rite Millpwr unit) and it all seems straight forward enough.
Here's the mill in the current mess:
And here it is before it was sold to me:
There are some tidy spots, honest:
To motivate me to get on with this i just purchased a 3D edge finder from Kennedy:
@Hood have you / do you use one of these or similar?
Anyway, the hope is to actually start cutting some metal during the Xmas holidays (we are flat out at the moment with our seasonal business). And then in the new year start work again on the big CNC router (with the help of this mill).
