Far too late mate this is at least a 1966 going by the serialWonder if the arrow denotes Ministry of Supply e.g War Dept?
Crap maybe, but miles better than a lot of worse crap out there, in fact if mine wasn't worn in the bedways I would love it so much I'd move it into the house with me....
They are reasonable lathes but a lot better out there, the round heads however are much better than the 2000 that I have, I had to fit a servo to the spindle and bypass the headstock gears because they are made of cheese and the noise is unbearable.Crap maybe, but miles better than a lot of worse crap out there, in fact if mine wasn't worn in the bedways I would love it so much I'd move it into the house with me....
Well it’s not a L1 spindle. It’s L2. How rare is that gonna be.
There’s about a 0% chance of finding an L2 just pop up.Unique possibly!!!
L1 is big enough - L2 must be huge. Not going to be easy to find chucks though!

I do have a L1 backplate to sell now on the bright side.
Huge. Bearings must be 7 or 8” in diameter.Jeepers, how big are the bearings?
Wonder how many of these were made?
Lathe will be in Poland by now.
Sold to whoever bought it on eBayYou sold it to someone from Poland?
Just hope it's gone to a good home.
That is the best Colchester to get, a round head, or a slightly later Square head, basically the same but with a flat top. The later 2000's are crap, I know I have one.
Looks like that may be what they call the Mk1.1/2 with the single lever for engaging feeds rather than the sliding lever of the older ones.
Don't think the bore is that much, 2 1/8 rings a bell.
Hi Hood, I've got this exact machine with all the accessories. It's very good. I have used a 2000 at work but not for anything precision. What wrong is wrong with 2000s?That is the best Colchester to get, a round head, or a slightly later Square head, basically the same but with a flat top. The later 2000's are crap, I know I have one.
