..... Or lamp !!
This is very true. Often I find myself driving all over to collect things. Middlesborough and Stockton is a "popular" destination for me, as is south Wales.Never let a long days road trip stop you buying the machine that you will own for years...too many lads buy muck just because its local or can be deliverd. The lathe above is going to be at least double that listed price by the time you find all the bits that should be with it now...move on is my advice.

This is my biggest problem, no lifting kit, vehicle or trailer suitable for shifting lathes.
I live near Chester/wirral and have been to Brighton to collect a little something. This is very true. Often I find myself driving all over to collect things. Middlesborough and Stockton is a "popular" destination for me, as is south Wales.
Most people do not seem to want to venture past the end of their road nowadays![]()
Lots of people baulk at the time and fuel cost, but If you really want whatever it is, and its big, awkward, or may get damaged, its the only way.I live near Chester/wirral and have been to Brighton to collect a little something.

Beware moving machines in a luton. There are often practically no lashing points (except on the glassfibre walls) because they're intended to move bulky things, not heavy things. At Bantam size, the machine is within the capacity of a 500kg tail lift on a hired Luton Transit.
In addition, you need a sensible/obedient assistant (weaker and lazier the better), some wood blocks, a 4 foot crowbar a pallet truck and some straps.
If it still has the switch on the 3rd rod, if you plan to use it with a vfd, that's about all the switch gear you'd want to retain. That and the microswitch on the foot brake.I would not touch that with a bargepole either. It has been stripped & repainted, Fine but whats the bed like? the front panel above the central drawer is off, where are all the electrics? The Bantams electrics are complex & if missing a nightmare to replace. You will need backplates, 3&4 jaw chucks, Tailstock chuck etc etc. It will add up to loads of money.
Buy an honest machine with all its gear. Never ever touch a machine that someone has stripped all the accessories from!
Forgot about that A , went the other side of the country only the other week to your manor for a machine vice..

Somebody bought a headache. Thank your lucky stars it's not you!Update:
It sold, just not by me, it ended this evening with a bid for the starting amount of £500.
Might see it back on sale in a few weeks time !Somebody bought a headache. Thank your lucky stars it's not you!
I’ve decided to stick with my old CSB for the foreseeable, I’ve ordered some bearings and pulleys to fabricate a replacement countershaft assembly to replace the worn out one, I’ve managed to get a good deal on a full set of change-wheels for it and have a 4 jaw chuck on the way, I’m committed to it now.How about this instead?
