Funny though, that when Volvo introduced them, various countries in Europe wanted them banned. When I took my Volvo to France years ago, I kept getting flashed for having the lights on. Volvo did it right though, the rears were on as well, so you didn’t get people driving with just the front lights on, I can’t see why that’s not done today on vehicles.

Motorcycles with headlights on for safety now disappear in a sea of bright DRL's
I remember the days when if you saw white lights in the daytime it was usually an emergency vehicle as the headlamps were brighter than the little blue beacons of the day.

They're generally not, except they are only on at the front when you don't have the lights switched on.

Oh, and while we're on the subject, dashboards that light up like a bloody christmas tree at night even when you haven't switched the lights on. How many cars have I seen happily bowling along the M4 at night with nothing more than (often excessively) bright DRL's on.

I've been caught out several times in my f-150, seems Ford now puts on the dash lights all the time, so you think you have your headlights on, but don't.
Granted, in total darkness you realize it right away, but at dusk you don't.
Sorry.... but saw this & couldn't resist...

I was reading something interesting yesterday about "early adopter" cars.
Basically they were saying some cars are clean enough to be exempt from the emission zones but because they were made earlier than the emission standard they aren't automatically exempted.
Seems there is a process to get them exempted from the charges.
From what I understood it basically means a car might be euro5 just because euro6 didn't exist yet when it was made!
Sounded very interesting...could be utter nonsense of course.

A lot of motorcycles would be exempt but for the stupid way they've decided to measure emissions, there is a way to have your bike tested and get it made exempt but I'll not bother, I'll just spend my money somewhere else.
The Ace cafe on the A406 is going to suffer I fear!

Going to be sad to see things like this disappear.
From what I read if you have the emissions paperwork from the manufacturer then it can all be done online it seems.
I know people who will have to pay £25 to visit family in London...very sad.

While I dont disagree, the people get what the people vote or dont vote for….its called democracy, fuelled by many an apathetic voter!
At the previous place I worked, the owner had a 2nd business that had an mot bay.
The Tester remarked more than once after testing older, so-called "dirty" high-tax vehicles.... about how good their emissions readings were.
My yr2000 old LDV with a Ford 2.5di passed its emissions levels easily over the last 8 or 9 Mot's & runs much cleaner with less smoke & better mpg - than when I got it in 2012..... after I gave it an EGR-ectomy.
Doubtful lol. I suspect a lot of old petrol cars with fuel injection might though.I wonder if the old Surf would pass?
My '96 Mitsbishi Carisma had EFI & a Cat, so there's plenty of cars made over the last 2 decades that potentially could pass (maybe with a tweak or two)?
