Finally getting round to assessing the damage caused to 2 of the 3 compressor heads of the above compressor.
Opened up the 2 ailing heads, one I'm breaking into and stripping parts out. The other will follow and be easier once I've plotted my way through the first one.
There are no helpful guides or videos, service manuals or much information on these heads.
@Seadog did a really helpful thread on looking into his Bambi quiet compressor, and that has spurred me on to getting started. I also need it sorted to run the plasma.
I'll try to keep the heads separate, for my ease and yours.
The actual machine looks like this,
It's a heavy beast when complete, it'll be getting 2 more out-board castors fitted to the front, to save my back and ease moving it. When it was loaded into the car, 3 man lift, well 2 young men and me. When I got home, I took all the motors off to make it manageable for me, specs say 86 kilo.
Both heads opened with a gentle tap once the bolts were removed, and they both smell of burnt, overheated oil. They both had oil in them, to the sights, but it's suspected that it fell over, I'll be breaking the air filters open as they look oil saturated for cleaning, that could have caused starvation and the problems.
Heavy burnt oil staining but thankfully no water.
Head 1, cap and body. Colour of oil tipped out.
The layout is different from @Seadog Bambi. I think (you'll have to excuse my naming of parts) this cover is from the reeds housing. Badly burnt oil deposits.
I was able to tip the body up and allow removal of the reed holder, and it's pretty badly burnt too.
You may be looking at this and thinking it's in pretty good condition. It is, it's like new, think it was out on rental first or second outing and was abused.
It still doesn't run, can't remember the running condition but not good and has to be fixed if put into service. The one head on the receiver works well, it will get a service and new oil, once I've dealt with the 'dead' ones.
Have given Head 1 a clean and a wipe, looks so much better already.
Do you think, 1. I'll get this any cleaner? and 2. Is it worth it?
I'm now stuck with where to go next. These strange (believed to be 1/4" 12 point) as discovered by @northwest Here. While working on a Jun air compressor.
Amazing the info you can find on this forum. Think I'll check with Clarke and ask if that's the size I need, as these bolts are holding down the valves that I think will need removing for checking and to release me further into the head.
The 3 bolts holder the driveshaft keeper are off and everything has come off easily so far.
I'm struggling to see how to lift the head out, not the same space as in the Bamby. Did a video, will do another with better lighting.
If I can get the valve with the strange head on the valve off, that may give me enough wiggle room in the soft copper pipe to lift off the keeper and see where we go from there.
