Will have a word with my flat mate, see what she says about picking it up for me in the car.
You're living the dream, young man!

Let me know when you are likely to be and I will get them out beforehand to make sure they are still ok.i’ll swing by when i’ve got a free day (and a van!)
no rush, just would be handy to have a solid stick machine for any particular jobs!

I'd get some funny looks wheeling it on a bus!
In all honesty I'd put your money towards a little DC inverter instead, it'l be so much nicer to use.Browsing social media; I've come across both a 230TE and 300TE arc welders for sale for what seems reasonable money, £70 and £150 respectfully.
I've never used an arc welder besides my Chinese made pile of junk which broke almost straight away; how do these compare to the cheapo ones sold on Ebay? I'm pleased with my Clarke MIG, can I expect a similarly decent experience from one of these machines?
Could do to weld some 12mm mild steel in the new year, was going to see if I could use a school machine, but if either of these would do the job - and Miller's settings tool suggests they would, it'll save me some hassle.
Even if you could lift it on and off....

I have a Clarke AC buzzbox (think it may even be a 230TE) and it's not a patch on my Chinese (with German-sounding name) DC one.
They do come with the EU plug but you also get the snap on adaptor to turn them into UK 13Amp plugs....
Quite like the GYS 163; not sure if they all come with a French style plug, I already have an adapter if they do, though I'd rather it come with a UK 16a instead.

The adapters are pretty good, the contacts are good and they snap shut and then there is also a screw to screw them shut. I think I posted a pic here at one time, I will see if I can find it.I actually like the EU plugs; just don't like the idea of needing an adapter, feels like another point of failure. Not a big deal I suppose though.
This is the only one I can find.

Since researching; I've found a few offerings which come with or otherwise fit in a case. I guess that's what they call suitcase welders, so if I miss out on secondhand bargains I may try and pick up one of those new in January. I know a few people who might provide some odd jobs now and then so being able to pick something portable up and easily get a lift or even hop on a bus with it would be a nice luxary.

Here we use these adapters
Actually the first two photos shows a CEE/schuko adapter , very robust an Italian patent from ROSI
I used to use this kind of adapter on my welder for awhile
The last image shows an civilian Italian to schuko adapter those are usually rathed for maximum 1500W but there are two versions 10 and 16 Ampere both usually catch on fire when used with a welder
Don’t take this the wrong way, but it does seem like you spend much time on the inter web “researching” things. Go easy on the research. Just play with what you’ve got, learn and get better.
Oh I do; my anxiety and finances can't keep up with my thirsty for knowledge and curious brain lol Always planning on what to do, I eventually get to do things, but I invariably start of by thinking things through quite a lot.
Not even Christmas and I'm already debating what I should buy or do first in the new year.
Hoping I can actually get to doing something again on Saturday though, as the weather looks to be the best then until the new year. Not sure how I'm going to go about doing it yet, but I'm wanting to get my big table cut down and moved into the garage. I plan to cut it down to about a 1/3 of it's length on one end if that makes sense, that way I have a nice edge and part of the frame in place I can reuse and I just need to put two legs onto where I make my cut. Been waiting for a diamond cut disc for my angle grinder to come in stock at MM, as I thought I'd go through too many discs otherwise cutting through the 5mm plate. Had that picked up today so just waiting for a break in the weather to get started now.
