Hi,
I am a complete beginner to welding of any kind and have bought the above machine for essentially 1 job I have on the car (although no doubt it will come in handy for other jobs as they come up).
I have replaced the liner with a wire one, and also the swans neck liner and am looking at the gas regulator (bottle end) currently as it looks a bit dodgy (it only seems to work over the last 25% of travel).
But the main problem is that I can hear gas escaping out of the welding nozzle (apologies if I don't have the terminology correct) without pressing the trigger. I thought the trigger also controlled the flow of gas so it would be OK to set the gas to the preferred setting before I start welding and leave it on for the duration but that does not seem to be the case.
Do I have a defective swans neck or is it meant to do that ?? I have been inside the trigger several times changing stuff so I know there is a block in there for connecting the liner and the gas tube, is there a valve in there controlled by the trigger ?
I spent a few hours today practicing but it looked terrible, I managed to tune the machine up to give a nice smooth wire feed but it now seems that my gas flow was entirely inadequate, when I turned the gas up full I made my first decent looking weld.
Thanks in advance
Cheers
Mike
