Clamps

Piher do some really nice F clamps, bit spendy though, I'm reluctant to use them for welding, even though that's what I bought them for.

For light work at home, i find the cheap clamps alright, and no matter what you do they do wear out, i treat them as disposable. Where i used to work, we had the carvers, great clamps, but two of the shaved apes there used to wear them out eventually.

I buy the f-clamps from lidl & they are decent & stand up to some abuse. They have a tendency to slip on the bar when you are setting them up but once some pressure is applied they stop slipping. Someone advised me to cut some notches with a grinder to aid grip.

I like the carver clamps but they are nearly impossible to use one handed while you hold the joint with your other hand. I use a ratchet clamp to get the joint set up then fit the carver clamp when both hands are free.

they look to be the standard rolson/amtech/silverline/blackspur/draper clamps which are available from carboot sales, markets, b&m, the range, wilkinsons, jtf, etc.
they're *ok*, but not fantastic.

the ones in the bay listing i think are priced about right, including postage.
theyre usually £5-10 each - cheap enough to be chopped up/adapted for t-slots and dog holes,

Piher are good quality F clamps.

Bessey are pretty good. Roebuck make a decent copy of their quick clamp.

If money is no object get some carver clamps.

Bessey are the nuts I just couldn’t justify the expense for what I do with them. I like phiers
Phier are perfectly adequate for fabrication and welding I’ve got 4 that I love to use more than the others I’ve got.

Bassey are brilliant, there g and f clamps very good.
Roebuck bassey copies we use at work and they are good.
The Kennedy heavy duty clamps are top notch also.

Another vote for Kennedy heavy duty. I’ve had mine years. Weigh a tonne but they are seriously strong.

Why would you clamp an anvil to a roof beam, is your forge in the attic?
