Nothing related to welding obviously but since there’s a fair few knowledgable folk on here I thought it worthwhile asking the question.
We have a sh*troen C4 (B7) that has developed a fault with one of the DRL headlights. Had it checked by an Autospark who confirmed it is a faulty unit and not wiring etc.
As the stealers are wanting £500+ for a replacement headlight unit and genuine ones elsewhere are no less than £400 I’m wanting to have a crack at fixing it before having to fork out a ridiculous amount of cash for what would normally be less than a tenner to replace a bulb.
Basically there is an LED strip / zone that serves as the indicator, daylight running lamp and position lamp. When lights are off the DRL remain on all of the time. The faulty one however flicks rapidly on and off in this setting. When you turn the headlights on the DRL should stay solid for the position lamp however the faulty one turns off. Indicator on this side works as normal.
Obviously something at fault with the LED unit / driver that deals with the DRL and position lamp so will need replacing. What I was wondering was if anyone has had success opening up one of the “sealed” headlight units and replacing individual components? Ideally I’d like to confirm what the LED unit is likely to be before tearing it apart as we need use of the car so any suggestions of where I might find this info would be appreciated.
Cheers
