Chop saw / dry saw

Like i already said the q/r adjustment of the fence isn't great

I gonna be switch between 90° and 45° alot so a good fence adjustment is important to me and that seems like an area the Makita has Dewalt beat.

As an aside, what is a good source for 12" bades?

That saw I posted about isn't any bigger than an abrasive chop saw. It's heavier but fine for one person. Forget the cost but it was on ebay a couple years ago, much less than a noisy high rpm new one anyway. I'm not saying they are ten a penny but may be worth keeping an eye out. Might even sell mine as it's never used but good to have a backup.

six of one half a dozen of the other choosing a saw. Personally I use an abrasive wheel chop saw from matabo, blades are cheap enough to keep in bulk and I use it to 80x80 SHS and its great for solid bar used in gates and the likes. It takes care and attention to get real good mitred cuts in box and like most saws the marked indications are practically meaningless.
I need a new roof on the shop this summer and the floor re-laying after that I will spend on a proper shop based band or mechanical saw for bigger cuts as presently its likely to get dripped on and be a swine to set up level . I might even go to a coolant fed circular but have bad experiences with those in the past and costly unexpected blade breakages.
If you choose TCT over abrasive I think it depends on what you cut, if I was on lots of thinner stuff I think TCT might tempt me on what is extensively a carry round bit of kit, chopping through a stack of 40x10 flat or 16mm round on site I like the abrasive I have. just this week gone I was cutting through 4 stacked bars of 16mm round a go on an old pallet in a field. With either I think ear protection, full face visor and a dust mask essential PPE
