Chop saw blade.

I've recently seen a video of someone cutting box and angle with a chop saw. As I own such a saw I thought I may try it but I'd love to know what blade to use? If there are any recommendations or restrictions they would be useful too.
I had previously thought of buying some thin cutting discs but the video shows them using a toothed blade.

Wood saws aren't suited to it. Too fast

Have a look at the rage saws. Carbide blade geared down to suit.

I bought the Evolution chop saws.....the biggest and I think the 230 or 250mm....
plus the biggest circ saw they sell.....all are still on the standard Carbide blades...
DO NOT be tempted to use a norm WOOD chop saw as they are to fast.....
A few moan about the hot chips but I have found them no prob.....
Think metal blade were available from Screwfix etc....

My little chop saw cuts wood smooth and accurate....

Many thanks for your responses. After looking at the details of the chop saws recommended above, I checked the details of mine. It was bought to build a deck so just for wood. It's a multi material saw with a multi material blade and a speed of 3700 rpm! I'll try it on some scrap metal in the morning.

I have a Rage chop saw with a metal blade I've owned a decade or more. It is impressive, as it will hack up tree bits into firewood, and then cut gloss black laminate board stuff clean as a whistle.
I also have an Aldi bandsaw. I've worn the tyre out on the drive hub, and many blades. It just cuts nicer, cleaner, quieter than the chop saw.

Personally I prefer my portable band saw for metal cutting. I just don't like using the evolution...noise, vibration, chips etc etc.

Portable band saws are pretty cheap and cut smooth and neat.

I have a couple of Rage saws and can't believe how good they are, the sliding one think is 230mm has been going strong for ten years of wood, fire wood and metal, great saw!
The other is a combination compact table and mitre saw, a bit smaller but very versatile especially for site stuff, I can cut a lot of unistrut on some jobs, this makes it very easy.
The table side of it is useful as well although will only do about 25mm thick, this is plenty for most of my projects though.
The downside is they are noisy as hell on metal and the chips can be nasty. I always wear goggles and a full mask when cutting metal. Saw a mate years ago with just a mask on get one in the centre of his eye! Was not good but managed to keep his sight luckily!
Worthy investment imho.

I'm just about to order a few things which will include safety wear. As someone who lost an eye nearly 50 years ago, I'm pretty careful in that department! I'm having the devil of a job finding a safety monocle!

No load speed 3750rpm. I would assume that's direct drive and not geared down in any way. Seems fast to me if you are cutting steel. But I've never seen or used one.

Neither have I. Not did I look that closely at it.

I've a Rage 3 250mm sliding mitre chop saw. That and a 185mm Rage Skilsaw.

The chopsaw chucks out metal shards like an A10 laying down DU rounds.

I use a Bionic full face shield when using it.

I bought a Stand for it and fitted an abrasive disc for steel cutting.

In short - it works, but its horrendously loud, and the torrent of hot sparks flying off the back is a real issue also (as well as very, very hot workpiece cuts).

The only circular saw I'd really want to use, is a proper slow-rotation cold-cut saw - but I can't justify the cost.

I think I'd have a bandsaw (I did buy the Scheppach one on offer online at Aldi, but it arrived with the pivot base cracked - so I returned it) by preference. Quieter, less dust, grit, chips etc, no sparks, clean cuts.

I have a rage 2 for hacking up pallets (the 2 is the one with the largest dia blade)

I try hard to avoid the nails as they age the blade way quicker, and the blades are expensive.

I don't cut much ferrous, but when I do I use the donkey saw or a standard angle grinder.

I think the rage blades would be good if you were earning from quick repetitive cuts, but for DIY, the cost of the replacement blade would always seem expensive.

Totally different I know, but I've got a powered hacksaw, Q&S 6H if I remember correctly, and the sounds it makes would put babies to sleep

You could at one time get Erbauer make, multi material blades in Screwfix. They fitted the Rage saws and were ridiculously cheap. I bought a few for each saw. Really impressed. For some reason they stopped selling them.

I've yet to try one of their blades, but any Sabrecut gear I've bought upto just, I've been quite impressed by.

I've got the big blue one, the S355CPS - bought it a couple of years ago when one came up at a good price on eBay as a stop-gap when my beloved FEMI bandsaw died.


It is incredibly well made, very weighty and robust but it scares me to use it; noisy and spreads shrapnel - have to be careful cleaning up as I have concerns about the dogs getting bits stuck in their pads. Also, not so good for holding smaller work, as I soon discovered. The TCT blade does indeed cut very quickly, and absolutely cold.

Must get round to selling it, bite the bullet, and getting another FEMI.
