Could be. I know they have a propensity to kill themselves.
Well, I have finally got round to testing this machine and with the exception of one rather large gotcha its not too bad,
DC Tig: All works as it should although the settings in pulsed mode are a bit of a gamble, their idea of 0.5Hz and mine are two different things.
AC Tig: Same results as DC although the HF start can be a bit erratic I occasionally need to scrape the electrode before starting the arc (my first attempt at welding Ali so not sure if this is normal)
MMA: Works fine, although the cables supplied a far to short to be usable.
Foot pedal: Again seems to work OK with a smooth action and if you can believe the display on the front of the welder appears to control the whole range of current available.
Plasma: Here is the gotcha - the torch supplied had a faulty gas connection which wouldn't seal to the welder. It took a while to sort that out using a brass washer, finally got it all together and Nothing not a sausage. You can hear the relay click when you switch from tig to cut function the ammeter is showing the current selected. When you press the trigger you can hear the welder doing something but no HF and no current through the torch. I've checked for continuity through the torch and that seems to be ok.
Bug**r, looks like I am going to have to go back to the supplier (feel free to take the P, I would)

The vast majority of that stuff shouldn't even legally be for sale on the UK & European markets; so much for CE, EMC, Weee, RoHS, BS etc.etc.
Maybe when somebody gets fried the authorities will wake up and clamp down.
The problem is they make up their own CE certification when caught. I used to work with a company selling Vinyl cutter plotters on ebay and things went downhill when after 18 months of building up the business I went to the office for a month and saw the business practices and failed machines for myself. Eventually they decided they did not like me questioning legal and ethical practices and kicked me and my son out.
Around this time a customer called trading standards (needless to say I got the blame) and despite the fact they had now changed their name to SIGNZWORLD they were closed down for 2 weeks while they got the paper work sorted, Guess what they printed their own certification.
But trading standards do not want to know anymore despite the fact my suspicions are the vinyl they sell is also illegal in this country.

A neighbour was involved for several years in getting the Chinese to produce his companies products (pottery). He spent weeks at a time over there but said as soon as he returned to the UK they reverted to their own simpler / cheaper methods. It was an uphill struggle to instil in them that unless they produced to the UK standards then they wouldn't be paid for the work.
Last year I bought a Tefal instant water boiler. The first went faulty so was replaced by Tefal. The replacement had a horrible taste to the water so I rang for advise to see if there was any cure. Turns out Tefal have them made in China to strict specifications but one of the parts suppliers changed to a cheaper type of seal that gave the tainted water. The whole production had to cease until a reputable supplied found so they gave me a full refund.
A few years ago I bought 13 brand new electric bikes. I actually thought I'd bought just one but seller pointed to small print of eBay auction that it was for two pallets worth
Among the spares were loads of power leads with kettle type Euro plugs on the end that were used to connect the detachable battery pack. They were around 1.5 m long and 30amp sized wire so I stripped the outer cover off to used it for another project. I was shocked to find on one lead the live wire was simply twisted together before being incased in the outer cover. Obviously that is the way in the factory they attach another spool of wire to the covering machine but elsewhere it'd be ensure that such section was scrapped yet the Chinese simply let it go. Frightening to think that there might be kettles and other 2-3kw domestic appliances with similar leads that could have twisted joined wires hidden.
